A game that puts the player in the shoes of a character referred to as a Street Cleaner might not initially sound like a crowd pleaser, but Trigger Happy Interactive's upcoming Turbo Overkill really steps up that selling point. With a collection of Cyberpunk weapons to tear through waves of enemies, the addition of a chainsaw grafted into the players leg is an impressive innovation on classic Doom-inspired gameplay.

Developer Trigger Happy Interactive has released a new trailer dedicated entirely to Turbo Overkill's gameplay, starting with an extreme example of what the leg chainsaw can do. However, once the player character goes back to running on a more conventional set of legs, the classic fps combat quickly starts showing that there is more than one trick to this upcoming Steam title.

Fans of classic shooters like Doom, Quake, and Duke Nukem will immediately recognize the inspirations to the fast-paced action that appears in Turbo Overkill. The Steam page for the game even cites these games as major inspirations, though it also makes mention of some of the cyberpunk franchises that influenced the aesthetic like Vaporwave and Outrun. Still, the leg chainsaw is certainly one piece of originality within this new title that helps it stand out among its inspirations, along with some guns with unique features.

Another new weapon that stands out is the pair of pistols that the player seems to start in, which has a secondary ability to lock onto multiple enemies at once and then fire at all targets at the same time. This weapon appears to work somewhat similarly to Red Dead Redemption's Dead Eye or Titanfall's Smart Pistol, as it can wipe through an entire group of enemies with one quick motion. Then the standard affair for this type of classic homage is also represented with both a powerful shotgun and a machine gun that can send out a hail of bullets.

These types of throwback games have become a huge hit in recent years for indie developers like Trigger Happy Interactive, especially with how the classic Doom-like graphics can be a lot easier for lower budget projects. However, the gameplay of Turbo Overkill looks like it could help it to excel within the indie genre, as the quick pace and collection of weapons elevates this title above the competition. With any luck, the developer will have more to show fans and soon as this initial gameplay trailer is already starting to pick up some attention for the game.

Turbo Overkill is in development for PC.
