Highlights

  • Transformers: Reactivate is a departure from past games, featuring Autobots and Decepticons uniting against alien invaders, with possible appearances from Beast Wars characters.
  • The inclusion of Beast Wars characters in Transformers: Reactivate could bring unique powers and abilities, adding diversity to gameplay strategies.

The upcoming Transformers: Reactivate might feature guest appearances from the cast of the beloved Beast Wars continuity. Splash Damage, the studio that worked on the multiplayer components for games like Gears 5 and Batman: Arkham Origins, officially revealed Transformers: Reactivate during last December’s Game Awards 2022 livestream with a chilling CGI trailer that showed a band of humans discovering and awakening an unidentified Transformer to help in a battle against an alien threat to Earth and Cybertron alike.

Details about Transformers: Reactivate are still sparse as of this writing, but it appears to be a departure from past Transformers games in many ways. Instead of the usual action-adventure format in which players take control of their favorite Generation 1 characters and reenact the timeless war between the heroic Autobots and evil Decepticons, Reactivate will instead see the two enemy factions unite against the aforementioned alien invaders. While previous leaks have hinted at classic characters like Bumblebee and Starscream being playable in Transformers: Reactivate, the game may include robots from the franchise’s later years as well.

A few days ago, Twitter leaker DpzLuna shared an enticing piece of information about Transformers: Reactivate - namely that it will include Beast Wars characters in addition to the expected Autobots and Decepticons. While they didn’t specify which Maximals or Predacons would be playable, DpzLuna promised that said robots will bring with them an array of special powers and abilities that will allow for more diverse strategies on the battlefield. They also hinted at other characters from the vast Transformers universe like the Quintessons and teased at more Transformers: Reactivate reveals in the future.

Beast Wars started as a drastic relaunch of the aged Transformers brand in the 1990s that included a toy line, two CGI animated cartoons, and a handful of Transformers video games. While hardcore fans initially scoffed at the idea of replacing the franchise’s vehicle forms with animals, Beast Wars ultimately became a beloved staple in its own right, largely due to the cartoon’s strong storytelling and revolutionary-for-the-time animation. Just this summer, many Beast Wars characters were introduced into the live-action Transformers universe in Rise of the Beasts, where they aided the Autobots in defending Earth.

With Beast Wars and its characters getting a renewed focus across various Transformers media, it would make perfect sense to include them in the upcoming Transformers: Reactivate. It isn’t clear exactly which Maximals and Predacons could be playable if this rumor is true, but staples like Optimus Primal and Cheetor are almost a sure bet. As DpzLuna stated in their post, more information about Transformers: Reactivate will surely come in the build-up to its eventual launch.

Transformers: Reactivate is currently in development for PC and consoles.
