The Transformers franchise has a long history of outstanding games that deserve more attention. Hopefully, this next proves the most successful yet. Today saw the announcement of Transformers: Battlegrounds, an all-ages "tactical warfare adventure" scheduled to launch on October 23 for current-gen consoles and PC.

Accompanying Transformers: Battlegrounds' announcement was a short teaser trailer. The trailer didn't reveal any gameplay, but it did offer an in-engine look at the game and what the Autobots and Decepticons will look like. It's a gorgeous, almost tilt-shifted top-down camera angle that captures the massive scale of the robots' battles.

In a prepared statement, Hasbro SVP of corporate strategy Mark Blecher describes Transformers: Battlegrounds as a "new and authentic take on what a Transformers video game can be." He doesn't provide any specifics but does not that the game focuses on the "epic story" of the battle between the two robot factions. Megatron will pursue the Allspark from Earth's Central City all the way to Cybertron in Transformers: Battlegrounds.

Transformers: Battlegrounds is being developed UK studio Outright Games. Outright is known for its licensed, kid-friendly games including Jumanji: The Video Game, Ice Age: Scrat's Nutty Adventure, and Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion. The studio has a lot of talent and proves it all the more with each game release. Hopefully, Transformers: Battlegrounds continues that trend.

Transformers: Battlegrounds releases October 23 on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
