Open-world gacha games like Genshin Impact have proven to be extremely popular. While HoYoverse's open world game continues to pull in massive numbers of players, other games are now trying to grab a piece of that pie. The latest competitor is the open-world sci-fi MMORPG called Tower of Fantasy, which gives players a wide range of content to tackle, from exploring a huge map, taking down enemies, raiding dungeons, and using a gacha style system to unlock new content and characters.

Even with a tutorial section to go through, for a game this size, not every game mechanic is explained to the level of detail many players were hoping for including what specific resources like portunids can do. Upon starting Tower of Fantasy and working through the tutorial sections, players will likely discover that the map is largely blurred out. Unlocking the map involves a very specific set of actions, many of which are not explained well by the game.

How to Unblur the Map

Similar to the Ubisoft tower system found in the Far Cry series, players will need to hunt down specific buildings called Omnium Towers. These can be found in each region of the map and players will need to climb them to reveal the full geography for that zone.

Even with the map blurred, players can discover the specific locations of these Omnium Towers. Opening the game's map, players should look for a symbol that appears to be a crescent moon over a pillar. Upon first entering a new zone, players should consider making a run to this location immediately as climbing the tower will activate a number of important details.

After climbing the tower and activating it, Omnium Towers provide a number of important benefits outside of simply revealing the zone and making it easier to navigate. Omnium Towers also reveal and detail important locations and landmarks in the region, making it easier to track down specific things to do and points of interest.

These include:

  • Strongholds - Similar to other open world games, there are enemy encampments which can be cleared out. These range from smaller camps, to larger fortresses that will take a bit more time to clear out. These are worth seeking out as each one has a chest that once acquired, will gray out the map marker to indicate that the camp has been cleared.
  • World Bosses - As expected, these are tough enemies that players can face and should they succeed in besting them, will earn a reward. It's worth noting that each boss has a specific level, so players should avoid certain ones like Barbarossa until they are much higher in level and power.
  • Ruins - locations that contain valuable loot and gear.

Tower of Fantasy is available on Mobile and PC.
