Tower of Fantasy is poised as Genshin Impact's latest challenger in the gacha genre. Right off the bat, there are some discernible differences between the two games. Tower of Fantasy, despite its name, is a bit heavy on its sci-fi elements and does its character scheme a bit differently. Abilities mostly depend on the weapons, and most characters can use all weapon types. Where the characters excel is in their passive skills, move sets, traits, and elements.

Of course, there's also the fact that some characters are simply meta-defining. Having them at the player's disposal can often make the game easier. So, like most gacha games, there are certain in-demand characters in the game, whether for single-player or multiplayer content in Tower of Defense. For those "pulling" blindly for certain characters, it's best to watch out for these ones and cheer accordingly when they appear.

7 Samir

samir in tower of fantasy
  • Role: Main DPS
  • Partner weapon: Dual EM Stars
  • Passive element: Volt
  • Best at: Hypercarrying

If players give her the Dual EM Stars pistol, then Samir can work well to keep targets paralyzed while quickly whittling down their HP. Samir works best when players keep avoiding damage with her since she gains a damage buff for every second she doesn't get hit. This is rather easy to achieve since her elemental passive can paralyze targets.

Her standard, or artifacts (in the traditional gacha sense) also augment her damage dealing where Samir gets rewarded by focusing on one enemy and killing them fast before moving on to another. If players want a carefree and rather simple playstyle where they just keep their character in the air while not losing any damage (even gaining more), then Samir is one of the current gold standards for DPS in Tower of Fantasy.

6 King

Tower-of-Fantasy-King
  • Role: DPS
  • Partner weapon: Scythe of the Crow
  • Passive element: Flame
  • Best at: Shieldbreaking

One can easily mistake King for Diluc in Genshin Impact as both sport edgy, dark apparel and similar red hair. Both of them also utilize fire as their flavor element. King deserves to have his signature Scythe of the Crow weapon to excel at what he does. And what he does best is break shields fast, so either he or another DPS character can blitz down targets.

King tends to have slower attacks compared to other DPS characters with lighter optimal weapons, but he doesn't really need to attack that often; his Flame passive will ensure that fully charged weapons inflict ongoing damage over time. This deals considerably high damage based on the ATK stat. Beyond that, players can use King's dodge as some kind of crowd control since it pulls enemies to the center of the screen.

5 Zero

  • Role: Support
  • Partner weapon: Negating Cube
  • Passive element: Flame
  • Best at: Providing shields

Players might as well be running naked at high levels in Tower of Defense if they don't have support or healer characters. Zero is one of the cutest and most effective in that role. This wiz kid excels in providing a shield for himself and to nearby allies for a generous duration. This shield can then soak up a large amount of damage.

This shield can also have an offensive function as it will return damage back to its enemies. In PvE, this seems rather unnecessary and reserved only for the most ferocious of bosses; but one can imagine that its use in PvP could be extensive, especially with the number of shield breakers in the game.

4 Cobalt B

  • Role: DPS
  • Partner weapon: Flaming Revolver
  • Passive element: Flame
  • Best at: Hypercarrying

Cobalt B is currently one of the best DPS characters players can get in the global launch version for Tower of Fantasy. She's a ranged character who excels in using rifle-type weapons and can unleash firestorms at her targets with relative ease. Due to the nature of the Flame passive, it's best to use charge attacks with Cobalt B.

Doing so will maximize damage over time from the Flame passive, while also keeping the character at a safe distance. In the CN or Chinese version of the game, Cobalt B is already enjoying her status as a meta character that can even trivialize the game with her Charge attacks. So naturally, players would want to have her in the Global version.

3 Tsubasa

  • Role: DPS
  • Partner weapon: Icewind Arrow
  • Passive element: Ice
  • Best at: Area damage

Tsubasa excels in ranged damage where she and her Icewind Arrow bow can make quick work of multiple flying or small opponents and even leave the big ones frozen in their tracks. For this to happen often, she'll have to employ her weapon's Charge attack. Those who manage to come out of being frozen will be frostbitten for several more seconds.

This opens up enemies for a multitude of offensive and defensive debuffs where attacking them deals more damage, and they'll be slowed. If not that, then Tsubasa can be equally good at covering the whole battlefield with a volley of arrows; thus, this makes her an ideal character and weapon combo against groups of enemies.

2 Coco Ritter

Tower-of-Fantasy-Cocoritter
  • Role: Support
  • Partner weapon: Absolute Zero
  • Passive element: Ice
  • Best at: Healing

Coco is the stereotypical healer in a gacha game and she even comes with the ice element to fit the Genshin Impact stereotype. In any case, Coco is one of the most reliable healers in the game since she not only ensures some on-demand healing, but she'll also be increasing her damage in the process.

Coco's healing amount is directly tied and proportional to the amount of her ATK stat. This leads to Coco having equal or balanced usage on the battlefield, while also still being in demand in group content or even in PvP. Players will need to give her the complete set for her Standard, however, in order to make her better at her niche.

1 Meryl

  • Role: Defense
  • Partner weapon: Rosy Edge
  • Passive element: Ice
  • Best at: Shieldbreaking

When it comes to being a tank, one won't find Meryl wanting. She's one of the toughest characters in the game, being a dedicated Defense character. It also helps a lot that Meryl's element is Ice, where Charge attacks allow her to freeze and apply frostbite to enemies, further reducing their attack capabilities.

On top of being a Defense character, Meryl is also good at fulfilling another role, which is breaking enemy shields. She's not as good as King when it comes to that endeavor, but it's good to know that she has utility beyond being a meat shield. Her weapon skill, Blizzard, also allows her to attack without getting interrupted too much, which is always welcome in a gacha game with all those pretty animations.

Tower of Fantasy is out now on Android, iOS, and PC.
