When players want to take a break from completing shrines or chasing down Ganondorf, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom offers up a wide range of side-content for Link to explore. In nearly every corner of the Kingdom of Hyrule, small quests and interesting adventures await the curious explorer. That's not to say Link must leave Tears of the Kingdom's hub areas to find adventure, as several meaningful quests await him within the confines of Lookout Landing. "Wanted: Stone Talus" is one such quest given by the Monster-Control Crew members that staff the Emergency Shelter.

Link can undertake multiple quests for this group of battle-hardened survivors of the Upheaval, all of which center around thinning out the number of remaining monsters. This guide will walk the player through every step required to complete this task with ease.

To begin the "Wanted: Stone Talus" side-quest, Link must head down into the Emergency Shelter that sits in the center of Lookout Landing. Link must speak with Gralens, who will have the small red and white exclamation mark in his speech bubble that indicates a new quest.

Gralens does not begin the game in the Emergency Shelter. While there are several different takes on what triggers his arrival, it appears that Link must complete at least one of the "Bring Peace to..." missions. The closest to Lookout Landing will be " Bring Peace to Hyrule Field ."

Gralens will have two separate dialogue branches; this quest requires Link to follow the 'Big Monsters' thread. The first time Link speaks with Gralens about 'Big Monsters,' he will give Link the following three options:

Each option corresponds to the associated 'Wanted' quest. In this instance, Link will want to select the Stone Talus option, which is always the first listed.

Gralens will inform Link that the Monster-Control Crew's Akkala team was attacked by a Stone Talus, offering up little else in the way of details. Luckily, the quest marker will take Link to his desired destination.

The Stone Talus is located in the northeast corner of Hyrule, not far from the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab. Link can use Jochi-iu Shrine (4346, 2875, 0165) as a fast-travel point, located directly east of the quest marker. If Link has not yet visited the shrine, the closest tower is the Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower (3493, 2019, 0188)

Link will find the Stone Talus at the quest marker, partially submerged in a small pond. Make sure to use any potions or meals before initiating the fight.

How to Defeat the Stone Talus

The basic Stone Talus is one of the easier 'bosses' in Tears of the Kingdom, thanks largely to the new Ascend ability. The Talus will have what appears to be an Ore Deposit on its back, which is the only place it can take damage. Link can Ascend up through the underside of the monster, then have free rein to attack the weak point.

In this case, the Ore Deposit is sticking out horizontally, making it difficult to attack from the top. Link can still use Ascend, then jump off and use the slow-motion aim effect of the bow to deal considerable damage.

With a powerful bow, Link will only have to repeat this process once or twice. If Link only has a weaker bow, the strategy will still work, though it may be wise to boost his defense to ensure any damage taken isn't fatal.

The Stone Talus' only real attack is its arm launch, where it sends its arm section hurtling toward Link. If Link stays mobile, it is fairly easy to avoid. The Talus will also eject Link from its back if he is standing on it for too long, doing a small amount of damage in the process. The Talus will begin to shake just before performing this action.

Remember to fuse the Stone Talus' heart to a weapon and collect any valuable ore before returning to Lookout Landing.

Return to Gralens

To complete the quest, Link must return to Lookout Landing and speak with Gralens. In this conversation, Link will have to first select the 'I Hunted Something' option, then report that he took out the Stone Talus. Gralens will give Link a silver rupee for his reward, effectively ending the quest.
