Early on in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Link will be presented with his Purah Pad, a helpful device that features many of the game's most useful mechanics. Through this device, Link will gradually gain access to the map of Hyrule, Camera, and Compendium, as well as several advanced mechanics that are gained by following Josha and Robbie's quest lines. One of these, the Sensor module, can help Link find almost anything he'll need during his time in Tears of the Kingdom.

The Sensor module, which Link will acquire after helping Robbie reach his lab near Hateno village, can receive an upgrade called Sensor + (Plus). This will allow Link to track any item in his compendium, working the same as it does when sensing a Shrine of Light nearby. This guide will explain every step Link must take to acquire the Sensor Plus upgrade for the Purah Pad.

Where to Find Josha and Robbie in Tears of the Kingdom

Robbie Head of Purah Pad Development

When Link first leaves the Great Sky Island in Tears of the Kingdom's opening hours, he'll be tasked with making his way to Lookout Landing. This central hub is where many of the game's central characters will be found, including Robbie and Josha.

To find them, look for the building with Purah's massive telescope on top and an open-air bottom floor. Robbie will be out front working on a broken Balloon device. This building is at -0254, 0142, 0020, directly at the northern edge of the complex.

While it is Robbie who controls the upgrade to the Purah Pad, Link must first work with Josha to open up the correct quest lines. Josha can be found inside the aforementioned building, working on her research of the Depths. Link will be able to complete "Camera Work in the Depths," unlocking the camera function, right away after meeting Josha.

After this, Josha will be busy until Link completes one of Purah's "Regional Phenomena" quests, which include the following:

Once one of these quests is complete, Link can return to Josha and receive "A Mystery in the Depths." When that is complete, Link will finally be able to help Robbie reach his lab in Hateno. To get this going, help Robbiw fix his balloon by fusing the broken parts together. He will then float off into the distance, advancing his quest to the desired point.

To continue with Robbie's quest, head to the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab, found at the eastern edge of Hateno Village (3778, -2123, 0251). Robbi will first upgrade Link's Purah Pad to get basic access to the Shrine Sensor, making it much easier to find shrines. Once Link completes the process that Robbie requires, he will inform Link that there are several other upgrades that he can perform, but Link will have to complete specific requirements for each.

How to Get the Sensor Plus Upgrade in Tears of the Kingdom

Robbie will list off three major upgrades, but the one that matters here is Sensor +. Robbie will explain to Link that he must bring information on five separate monsters. This is presented in the form of the "Presenting: Sensor +" side quest. Luckily, Robbie will unlock the lab's fast-travel point, allowing Link to quickly return.

To complete this task, Link needs to use his camera on five separate monsters; take a photo of them, and add them to the compendium. Link will know he is doing this correctly when he sees an orange box around the monster he is photographing. The orange box means this will be a new addition to the compendium, the blue box means that the compendium entry is already complete.

Link can begin filling the compendium as soon as it is unlocked, and in many cases, he will already have five separate entries in the monster category long before meeting with Robbie

When players have acquired at least five, head back to Robbie to receive the Sensor + upgrade. He will explain to Link exactly how to use the mechanism, but if Link needs reminding, he can check the information board behind Robbie at the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab.

Link can now alter what he targets with the sensor by pressing Y when the map is open. This will bring up a menu that allows Link to pick any item from the compendium that he has completed.

This can be extremely helpful when looking for things like upgrade materials, treasure chests, and even those hidden Bubbulfrogs. Remember to take photos of every item Link comes across; there will likely be a time when it comes in handy.
