Weary travelers in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are always thankful to find a stable where they can board their horses and get some rest of their own. Stables are especially beneficial when they offer sanctuary from the harsh weather conditions caused by the Regional Phenomena. The Snowfield Stable is one such location, offering players the opportunity to get out of the blizzard in South Tabantha Snowfield.

In order to start the quest “A Picture for Snowfield Stable,” the player must first clear the Wind Temple and main story quest Tulin of Rito Village. If the player has not yet completed this temple in Tears of the Kingdom, they can interact with the frame, but the stable keeper will not yet offer this quest.

The Snowfield Stable is located at coordinates (-1641, 2566, 0233) in the South Tabantha Snowfield in the Hebra Mountains region. The weather in this area is expectedly quite chilly, but the easy-to-obtain Archaic Warm Greaves are adequate to brave the weather and avoid taking damage from the cold. The nearest shrine for fast travel purposes is the Orochium Shrine, which places the player just north of the Snowfield Stable.

Inside the stable, players will discover a wooden photo frame mounted on its interior wall just like those found in each stable throughout Hyrule. As long as they have first cleared the Wind Temple, interacting with the frame will trigger the necessary conversation with the stable’s keeper, Varke, to start “A Picture for Snowfield Stable.”

Varke would like to hang a painting of “the giant bird with wings stretched wide” that is visible in the sky above the Hebra Mountains. He provides a specific location from which the bird can be best viewed, citing a cedar tree on Talonto Peak as Link’s optimal destination. The bird is only visible when it is not snowing, hence the requirement of clearing the Wind Temple before undertaking this side quest.

Talonto Peak is located directly west of the Snowfield Stable, deep in the Hebra Mountains. It is northeast of the Rospro Pass Skyview Tower, making the tower the most suitable location to fast-travel and glide northeast from its peak. The surrounding area is substantially colder, so Link should bring consumables providing Cold Resistance or equip more suitable armor. Talonto Peak is at a great altitude, so the player should remember to utilize Tulin’s Gust ability to reach the mountaintop without losing too much height and resulting in more climbing.

Once near the peak, the player can use nearby updrafts to glide upward to reach the cedar tree mentioned by Varke, located at coordinates (-3165, 2695, 0567). From here, pull out the Camera and aim the viewfinder directly to the northwest and down.

Below, the player will discover that the “giant bird” reported by Varke is actually a large snowy plain that resembles a “Bird with outstretched wings.” Once the caption and red exclamation point appear in the viewfinder, the player can capture the photo that Varke requested.

Head back to the stable and interact with the frame to get Varke’s attention. Show him the photo of the “giant bird” taken from Talonto Peak, and he will excitedly paint a recreation to mount on the stable’s wall. He will reward the player with 1 Pony Point and Spicy Meat Stew and complete the quest “A Picture for Snowfield Stable.”

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available now for Nintendo Switch.
