It seems like the days of Total War: Warhammer are coming to an end following the release of the final game in the trilogy. While there are still loads of DLC packs for fans to look forward to, Creative Assembly will be moving onto a brand-new setting soon. There is a strong likelihood that the Total War franchise focuses on historical time periods after Total War: Warhammer 3, but the studio may also want to consider going after HBO's acclaimed Game of Thrones series.

Game of Thrones is one of the most popular fantasy franchises around today, and its popularity is only growing. Not only did the main series enthrall audiences for over a decade, but HBO is also expanding its universe through shows like House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight. It seems like Westeros is unstoppable, and the Total War franchise may be the perfect way for it to break into gaming.

Total War is one of the biggest PC strategy series in gaming, and it shows no signs of slowing down. Creative Assembly has whisked players away to all sorts of different historical settings, and the Total War: Warhammer trilogy showed that the franchise is not limited to the real world. Its massive battles have been enthralling audiences for years, and while the next couple of titles may focus on history once again, hopefully a new fantasy IP is in Total War's future.

Game of Thrones is insanely popular on the small screen, but it has yet to break into the gaming industry. There have been a couple video games over the years that have tried to capture the essence of George R. R. Martin's world, but most have never quite reached the height of HBO's acclaimed series. Nowadays, it seems like the franchise has been relegated to mobile platforms, and that needs to change.

Combining the popularity of Game of Thrones with the success of the Total War franchise seems like a recipe for success. Westeros' warring houses feel like they were built for an expansive strategy title, and the fantastical supernatural elements make it even better. Total War's campaign structure could put the diplomacy of Game of Thrones at the forefront, and the giant iconic battles could shine via Total War's combat system. If HBO wants Game of Thrones to break into gaming, then Creative Assembly should lead the charge

Creative Assembly could adapt the events of Game of Thrones within the Total War framework, explore House of the Dragon's time period, tell a new original story within Westeros, or let players go absolutely wild as their favorite house. Creative Assembly could even take things a step further by giving players control of the White Walkers as they attempt to destroy the seven kingdoms forever. This world is filled with centuries of stories waiting to be explored, and the Total War franchise is the perfect place to tell it.

There have been no rumors hinting at a potential Total War: Game of Thrones title, but the conclusion of the Total War: Warhammer series should pave the way for additional crossovers. Both series are popular right now, and combining them could lead to an experience like no other. If done right, it could finally give Game of Thrones fans the video game they have been waiting for, and could kickstart a whole new era of Westeros-based games.

Total War: Warhammer 3 is available now for PC.
