Horror game fans craving a classic survival horror experience like the original Resident Evil and Silent Hill games delivered have something new to look forward to. Wednesday morning PQube Limited revealed Tormented Souls, a fixed-perspective survival horror game. Tormented Souls is tentatively planned for release in 2021 on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.

Developers Dual Effect and Absrtact Digital describe Tormented Souls as directly inspired by the original Resident Evil and the Alone in the Dark series. Players take on the role of Caroline Walker, who investigates a terrifying mansion filled with secrets. Walker comes to the town of Winterlake searching for missing twin girls, but finds much more than she could have ever predicted.

Like the classics, Tormented Souls is filled with traditional survival horror gameplay. Players will have to solve complex and challenging puzzles, all while cleverly avoiding deadly traps and worse. And while Tormented Souls is fixed-perspective just like older survival horror games, it also features modernized controls and a dynamic camera. And clearly visuals have come a long way since the 90s, too.

As part of today's reveal, publisher PQube Limited also shared Tormented Souls' first survival horror gameplay trailer. It starts with how the game will begin, with Walker awakening in a bathtub hooked up to a strange machine. Things only get stranger from there, with Walker encountering mystery otherworldly mirrors, as well as some sort of terrible monstrosity. Perhaps a victim of the mansion's awful experimentation. It's clear that Walker is not alone in this old, mysterious mansion.

Tormented Souls releases in 2021 on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
