Tomb Raider is one of the longest-running and most-successful video game franchises of all time, and now fans can check out the original games with a new coat of paint thanks to the newly announced Tomb Raider: 1-2-3 Remastered collection. Tomb Raider fans who are anxious to relive Lara Croft's original adventures will be able to do so in early 2024.

Recent years have seen the Tomb Raider series go in a grittier, more cinematic direction, borrowing elements from Naughty Dog's Uncharted series. The Tomb Raider reboot trilogy earned a great deal of critical acclaim, especially the first two games, but there are those who prefer Lara Croft's zanier 90s games. Luckily for those fans, Tomb Raider: 1-2-3 Remastered will give them the chance to play those classic games on modern consoles.

Tomb Raider: 1-2-3 Remastered was announced during the latest Nintendo Direct event. The collection will be developed by Aspyr, a studio that specializes in game ports and remasters. Anyone interested in picking it up can do so come February 14. Presumably, the Tomb Raider: 1-2-3 Remastered collection will be available for more platforms than just the Nintendo Switch, but that has not been clarified at the time of this writing.

This new Tomb Raider collection will let players switch between the iconic polygonal look that defined the original Tomb Raider games and a sleeker, more modern presentation with significantly improved graphics. Gameplay-wise, it seems as though the collection will mostly attempt to recreate the originals. The original trilogy of Tomb Raider games weren't exactly known for their tight controls, though, so hopefully there are some improvements in that department. In the meantime, it was confirmed that all the expansions and extra content released for the games will be part of this collection, so if everything goes well, Tomb Raider: 1-2-3 Remastered should be the most complete way to experience the classic games.

Some Tomb Raider fans will no doubt hope that Tomb Raider: 1-2-3 Remastered is just the start of Lara's comeback. There are many other classic Tomb Raider games that could use the remastered treatment. They may not be as popular as the original trilogy, but some fans may want to see The Last Revelation, Chronicles, and The Angel of Darkness made playable on modern platforms. And it's safe to say that even more fans would like to see the Crystal Dynamics-developed Tomb Raider Legend, Tomb Raider Anniversary, and Tomb Raider: Underworld get remastered as well. It remains to be seen if any other classic Tomb Raider games will be getting remastered, but fans do have a brand-new Tomb Raider game to look forward to at least.

Tomb Raider: 1-2-3 Remastered launches February 24 for Nintendo Switch.
