Square Enix's March 18 event started early for Tomb Raider fans, it seems. Ahead of the planned broadcast, one of the apparent announcements of the event was discovered to be already available. That being a bundle collecting all of the modern Tomb Raider games packaged into what Square Enix is calling the Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor Trilogy. The bundle's currently available on both the PlayStation and Microsoft storefronts for a very surprising and affordable price.
The bundle includes all three of the major Tomb Raider releases of the past decade. It starts with the 2013 reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise, which was self-titled. Next is Rise of the Tomb Raider, the 2015 sequel that sees Lara exploring her father's unfinished work. Lastly, there's Shadow of the Tomb Raider, developed by Eidos Montreal instead of Crystal Dynamics. In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Lara takes on a paramilitary organization hunting for a mysterious power.
Naturally, being an all-encompassing bundle, the Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor Trilogy also includes all of each games' respective DLC and content. For example, Shadow of the Tomb Raider featured post-launch content like challenge tombs, weapons, outfits, and even skills that mix up the game's action in exciting ways.
The best part of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor Trilogy bundle, however, is the game's initial price point. The retail price for the bundle is technically $49.99, a full-priced offering. However, it seems that Square Enix wants to give back to excited Tomb Raider fans, at least to start. The Tomb Raider bundle is discounted down to $19.99 on both storefronts for the time being. This special discount price will apparently last for 14 days before it jumps back up to the full price, so interested gamers should make the most of it the sale while it's available.
It's possible that the huge discount is an accident. The Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor Trilogy did release prior to the Square Enix event, which could mean not everything is going to plan. The discount has now been live for several hours, however, and Square Enix hasn't pulled it from storefronts. As such, it seems like an intentional decision.
The question is whether the release of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor Trilogy perhaps implies that a new Tomb Raider game is in the works. There's been no official announcement regarding that, outside of a free-to-play Tomb Raider mobile game. But maybe Crystal Dynamics or Eidos Montreal have a surprise in store for Tomb Raider fans, for the relatively near future.
