Sony's Uncharted sits atop the domestic box office once again, ending its second theatrical weekend with an accumulated total of $23.3 million. The Tom Holland-led film continues to ride the tremendous momentum it generated during its opening weekend, pulling its overall domestic total up to $83.3 million.
Uncharted ended its opening weekend by taking home a $51 million domestic box office total, which significantly exceeded the studio's $30 million projection. The success stirred excitement within the walls of Sony, prompting CEO and Chairman Tom Rothman to label the project as the studio's "next hit movie franchise." The film's second weekend saw a 47% decline in revenue, but the accumulated $23.3 million was enough to keep the Holland-led adventure atop the box office domestically.
Internationally, Uncharted's cumulative total sits at $143 million, which brings its global number to $226.4 million. The film's international revenue dropped 35% from its opening weekend, but it continued to hold firm during a relatively quiet theatrical weekend. The absence of notably new projects was apparent, but what's on the horizon is sure to readjust the box office standings this upcoming weekend significantly. It's unclear where Uncharted will stand once the dust finally settles, but the popularized PlayStation video game has done better than expected and continues to surge upwards.
Channing Tatum's Dog ended the weekend in second place with a 32% drop in its box office revenue. Nevertheless, the film's three-day performance resulted in a $10.1 million total, bringing its domestic number to $30.8 million. Marvel Studios and Sony's Spider-Man: No Way Home finished its eleventh theatrical weekend with a $5.75 million total, which was good enough to claim the third position in the domestic box office standings. The number, however, pushes the project's domestic total to $778.88 million, inching it closer to the $800 million milestone. If crossed, Spider-Man: No Way Home would become the third film to ever exceed that mark domestically, behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avengers: Endgame. Globally the film saw its box office revenue reach $1.85 billion, keeping it firmly in sixth place all-time behind Avengers: Infinity War.
However, a new presence lingers on the horizon and looks to make a significant impact at the box office this upcoming weekend. The Batman will officially make its long-awaited arrival on Friday, with some speculating the film could see a box office total of $115 million by the end of the weekend. Warner Bros. has heavily promoted the project, with many drawing connections between this narrative and the groundbreaking rendition brought about in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. Holland's Uncharted may not be able to compete with the newest Matt Reeves film, but it may still make enough noise to find itself in the top three by the end of the weekend once again.
While the weekend was pretty quiet, two new films did emerge, but neither impacted the domestic box office considerably. Studio 666 ended the weekend in eighth place with a $1.58 million total, followed by Cyrano, bringing in $1.4 million to complete its theatrical weekend. The release of The Batman will shift the box office needle, but with no other notable releases coming, Uncharted will look to stay in the conversation, especially since Turning Red turned to Disney Plus over theaters. April has more ingredients to add to the mixing pot, but how well these films will perform remains to be seen.
