Tom Holland's fans are curious whether the actor will return for another web-slinging experience in Spider-Man 4. So far, the actor hasn’t spilled any secrets but has confirmed that he has been part of several development meetings. Whether this means he will don the suit again remains unclear, but he has finally expressed his concerns about returning to the role.

Fans have contemplated whether Holland will return to play the protagonist in Spider-Man 4 ever since the successful Spider-Man: No Way Home hit theaters. Many even wondered if another chapter was needed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise. However, producer Amy Pascal has been adamant that a fourth film will be created and Peter Parker's journey in the MCU will continue. On the other hand, Holland has expressed his reservations and even said he is “apprehensive” about it.

Holland recently revealed that he had been a part of Spider-Man 4 development meetings and confirmed that all the major players, including Pascal and Marvel boss Kevin Feige, were present. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Spider-Man star revealed that in the earlier meetings, they all wondered why they wanted to continue the journey. “The first few meetings were about, ‘Why would we do this again?’ And I think we found the reason why. I’m really, really happy with where we’re at in terms of the creative,” Holland said, confirming that there is a reason to continue the saga. Feige has also previously commented on Spider-Man 4's storyline and how it is partially mapped out.

Having a reason to continue doesn’t necessarily mean everyone is on board. Holland has concerns about continuing as the hero and revealed that he is “a little apprehensive about it.” The reason? He worrys about the stigma attached to the fourth installment in popular franchises. “I feel like we hit a home run with our first franchise, and there’s a part of me that wants to walk away with my head held high and pass the baton to the next lucky kid that gets to bring this character to life,” Holland said. There is currently no talk about replacing Holland in future Spider-Man films, but what comes out of these development meetings remains to be seen.

It seems fans must wait a while before getting more information about the film's production because the Spider-Man 4 meetings are on pause. Holland has previously revealed that due to the Writers Guild of America strike, the Spider-Man 4 meetings were put on hold in solidarity with the writers. So, while the team might have a reason to continue, they will not move forward until the strike ends.

Spider-Man 4 is currently in development at Sony Pictures.
