13 Leaving After Graduation

When Takemichi graduates, he leaves his town and never looks back. He does a series of odd jobs to make ends meet, eventually finding himself working at a DVD store with a manager who's younger than he is.

While this might seem like a fair decision because his life at home was hell, his leaving set off a series of events that led to Hinata's death. Now, Takemichi must do all that he can in order to save Hinata and his friends from the past.

12 Not Fact-Checking His Cousin Masaru

Although th series gets corrected by Takemichi's time travel, in the original timeline, Takemichi takes his cousin Masaru at face value when he tells him he is the leader of the third years from Shibuya Middle School.

This leads to Takemichi and his friends getting absolutely destroyed in a fight with the delinquents that Masaru claimed to be the leader of, and ultimately having to be their errand boys until Takemichi left at graduation. This might not seem major, but the events of this day are what led Takemichi to leave for a new life and Hinata's death.

11 Watching Akkun Jump

a boy with red hair turns his head

As time passed Takemichi became more invested in stopping the Tokyo Manji gang. This leads him to a meet-up with an old friend, Akkun, at the hostess bar he is now running. Akkun gives Takemichi valuable intel about the dynamic among the Tokyo Manji gang's leadership, stating that Mikey changed after Draken's death.

After telling Takemichi this, Akkun jumps from the roof of his hostess bar and dies. One of Takemichi's biggest mistakes is not intervening when Akkun climbed up on the edge.

10 Letting His Guard Down On August 3rd

two biker gangs start to fight

After middle school, Takemichi is hospitalized following the fight with Moebius. Draken and Mikey visit him and resolve their issues. This leads Takemichi to relax about the potential rift in the Tokyo Manji Gang. So, on August 3rd, 2005, the day Draken is supposed to die, Takemichi lets down his guard.

Not only does this cause Takemichi to leave Hinata alone in the rain on their date, but it also allows a carefully plotted attempt on Draken's life to occur.

9 Assuming That Everything Would Be Okay If He Saved Draken

In the first part of season 1, the main goal was changing the future through the action of saving Draken from his death on August 3rd and preventing Mikey from changing. This was supposed to stop Kisaki from joining the Tokyo Manji Gang, which turned them onto a violent path in the original timeline.

While saving Draken in the past did save Hinata and Akkun in the future, Kisaki couldn't let Takemichi and Naoto win. As soon as Takemichi and Hinata are reunited, Kisaki has Akkun kill Hinata, with Akkun dying in the process. Not only did saving Draken not save Hinata, but it didn't save Akkun either.

8 Punching The New Third Division Captain

In the latter half of season 1, a new third division captain of Tokyo Manji Gang is appointed, Kisaki Tetta. Takemichi knows Kisaki is the reason behind the change in Tokyo Manji Gang's philosophy, as well as the death of Akkun and Hinata in the future. This pushes Takemichi to punch Kisaki at a formal Toman meeting.

While he's not the only one who wants to punch Kisaki, fans included, Takemichi totally oversteps his rank (which was no rank at the time) and makes Mikey and Draken look bad. Moreover, he ends up getting punched, twice.

7 Letting Kisaki Save Mikey

On October 31st, 2005, a brutal battle between Tokyo Manji Gang and Valhalla took place, with the members of Valhalla plotting to take out Toman leadership. While Takemichi's main goal was to make sure Baji survived the fight, he also should have been protecting those whose deaths might lead to the division or fundamental change of Toman.

When Mikey was cornered by Valhalla, Takemichi started running towards him, unfortunately, Kisaki got there first. This led to Kisaki gaining support from members of Toman, including Draken.

6 Missing Baji's Fatal Injury

While there wasn't much Takemichi could do about Baji getting stabbed, other than if didn't get distracted by Mikey, which was equally important, he failed to notice Baji's fatal injury. This led to Baji taking on 50 Valhalla members with a stab wound.

His main goal for this mission was to prevent Baji's death, but instead, Takemichi got distracted and let Baji get stabbed. He then continued to let Baji fight because he didn't look closely enough. Moreover, he watched Baji stab himself in order to not let Kazutora get the final blow. Present-day Draken described this day as significant to the fundamental change in Toman, and Takemichi failed to do much about it.

5 Accepting A Drink From Kisaki

When he comes back to the future after being made the head of the first division of Toman, Takemichi finds himself in a new world where he is a top executive of the Tokyo Manji Gang. There, he goes to a meeting of higher-ups and meets Kisaki. Together with Chifuyu, Takemichi steps outside and has a drink with Kisaki.

The drinks were laced with something that caused Takemchi and Chifuyu to pass out, and when they awoke, they were taped to their chairs. Accepting their drinks led to Chifuyu's death and Takemichi getting shot in the leg.

4 Having Akkun Kill Hinata

At the beginning of season 2, Takemichi comes back to a future where Toman Kisaki has corrupted Mikey, and Chifuyu is killed. Kazutora saves him, only to have him arrested by Naoto. Naoto shows him evidence that he planned the hit on Hinata, asking Akkun to do the deed.

Takemichi shouldn't have had Akkun kill anyone for him. He also should have at least known who he was having killed before asking Akkun to kill for him. Takemichi regretted this one more than anything and was in disbelief when Naoto showed him the tapes.

3 Breaking Up With Hinata

a girl with orange hair

A week before Christmas Eve, Takemichi ran into Hinata's father and they went and had tea and a talk. During their talk, Hinata's father asked Takemichi to break up with Hinata in order for her to be happy with someone that wasn't a "hoodlum".

On Christmas Eve, Takemichi met up with Hinata and broke up with her, stating that he liked someone else. This was a lie, and despite breaking up with her to protect her from potential harm, Takemichi regretted it. Hinata knew what she was in for while dating Takemichi, and loved him regardless. She was one of a kind and Takemichi shouldn't have thrown her away like he did.

2 Trusting Kisaki To Stop Taiju

a man with blue and white hair, and a neck tattoo looks at the city

When Takemichi and Chifuyu want to stop Hakkai from killing his older brother and leader of Black Dragon, Taiju, the two join forces with Kisaki. They devise a plan in which Kisaki, Hanma, and Chifuyu would stop Taiju outside the church where Hakkai waits for him, with enough time for Takemichi to convince Hokkai not to kill Taiju.

Instead, Hanma and Kisaki tie Chifuyu up and let Taiju enter the church where Hakkai and Takemichi are left without any backup. Chifuyu tried to talk Takemichi out of accepting help from Kisaki, but ultimately lost to Takemichi who believed Kisaki would help them.

1 Never Asking Someone To Teach Him How To Fight

a blonde boy with a black eye and injuries to his face

For someone who either spends his time with the top fighters of Toman, or a top police officer like Naoto, and has to fight regularly in the past as a member of Toman, Takemichi never learns how to fight. Instead, he goes into battle without anything other than his guts. It gets him into trouble regularly and causes him to take a lot of hits without any defense.

While his guts are, at times, inspiring, he still gets in the way during fights and has to rely on senior members of the Tokyo Manji Gang to back him up. Though not being able to fight might be a part of Takemichi's charm, it's about time he learned how to throw a few punches.
