The new Titans trailer for season three has just dropped and it’s revealing a lot more clues than fans previously imagined. The trailer is only 55 seconds long in total, yet it manages to convey the overall tone of season three - illuminating its already sturdy foundation and teasing Red Hood's debut.

The Titans trailer is attracting a lot of attention for the many surprise features and guests that are shown within a blink of an eye. The tone may be so palpable to fans because it seems eerily familiar. Rumors of season three embodying the narrative and aesthetic of Batman have been circulating for some time now.

The Titans trailer ultimately confirms that Batman's story-arc from the DC comics is influential for the series. The notorious Gotham City is even referenced through the trailer’s narration. The character of Dick Grayson’s voice haunts the sinister scenes. Grayson’s presence hovers ghoulishly over the wicked city as he speaks, "This is Gotham. The city breeds a special class of criminals. People die here - people like us.”

Grayson, also known as Nightwing,  is the leader of all the Titans, so this is his way of ushering and welcoming his fellow comrades to the city. Grayson is an omnipresent figure in the trailer - the storyteller. However, the first scene from the trailer focuses on Jason Todd. Following his detachment from the group, Todd finds himself in an empty amusement park. This is when he finds what appears to be the Joker’s corpse.

The corpse’s identity is given away through The Joker’s mad smile stretching itself over the entirety of his cheeks. The uncanny smile is followed by The Joker’s iconic laugh. The next scene that flashes on the screen shows mysterious shadow of a person holding a crowbar. It’s understandable that parallels are being drawn between the trailer and the story carried out in the DC comic, A Death In the Family. The clues that this trailer unveiled seem to be heading in the same direction as the ending of the comic book story.

The showrunner of the series, Greg Walker, has previously discussed how similar the theme of Jason Todd’s storyline will be in Titans season 3 to the Joker’s symbolism. Walker noted that Todd was been cast away from the team, and there may be a terrible lesson to be learned about the dangers of throwing people away. It's a cryptic message from the showrunner, but fans only have a couple of months to wait until they see how Todd's storyline unfolds in the third season of Titans.

Titans season 3 will be available for streaming on August 12th, 2021.
