Respawn Entertainment, the developers of the Titanfall franchise and its popular battle royale spinoff Apex Legends, may be gearing up to finally announce Titanfall 3 this month. The acclaimed studio has just shipped its latest Star Wars blockbuster Jedi: Survivor earlier this year. While the Souls-inspired sequel launched with poor performance and technical issues, it was praised for its superb storytelling and character development. Respawn has just recently made significant strides in patching the game up on PC.

Titanfall has always had a troubled history despite its glowing reputation. The original, a multiplayer-only Xbox One exclusive, struggled to find an audience when it launched in early 2014. A game releasing without a single-player component was not a normalized occurrence in the industry at the time. That, combined with launching exclusively on the less-than favorable Xbox One, and the original Titanfall was considered by many to have failed despite its buttery smooth first-person mech gameplay. 2016 saw its multiplatform, single-player-focused sequel launch in a Fall season sandwiched between best-selling Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare bundled with Modern Warfare Remastered, and EA's very own Battlefield 1. Thus, due to a different set of circumstances, Titanfall 2 struggled to find its foothold in the realm of first-person shooters, despite its unique mech gameplay and celebrated story campaign.

Despite all this, and possibly thanks in part to the huge success of Apex Legends, fans are still clamoring for the third installment in Respawn's mech-focused first-person shooter franchise. An unofficial teaser trailer for what clearly seems like Titanfall 3 has surfaced online, being posted to Reddit and Twitter by JHaleStorm. The teaser features Respawn's logo and the words "Worldwide Reveal" in Titanfall's title font with a reveal date of October 27. All the text fades away with only the "3" in 2023 remaining. Of course, as there hasn't been official word from EA or Respawn the trailer's authenticity should be taken with a grain of salt.

With Star Wars Jedi: Survivor out the door, it seems reasonable for work on Titanfall 3 to have already begun. Respawn Entertainment has been routinely denying the possibility of Titanfall 3 for several years at this point with its focus having shifted to running Apex Legends and making incredibly well-received Star Wars games. However, despite Titanfall's struggles of the past, the demand for a third installment is certainly alive and quite loud. With a third Star Wars Jedi title having been recently confirmed, it's likely far enough out for Titanfall 3 to have its time in the sun.

If this teaser is legitimate it would mean that Respawn would have to be gearing up to officially drop it in the coming days or weeks, as the suggested reveal of Titanfall 3 on October 27 is just around the corner. Titanfall 3 may still be a few years away despite this potential reveal happening just a few months after Jedi: Survivor's launch. As the authenticity of the teaser is unknown, Titanfall fans should keep an eye on EA and Respawn's social media in the following days in the event that it's legitimate.

Titanfall 3 is rumored to be in development.
