The Borderlands franchise has always included a healthy handful of references and Easter eggs in its games. From a Minecraft-inspired cave, to a Dark Souls-esque bonfire surrounded by white phantoms and a knight named "Solitaire," Gearbox Software has always found the time to include plenty of nods to other popular gaming franchises, movies, and TV shows. The developer's latest title, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is no different, being jam-packed with references from every corner of popular culture.

Though Tiny Tina's Wonderlands only came out a few days ago, players have already found a number of Easter eggs, with one of the most popular being a huge reference to The Witcher series. To unlock the quest, player's just need to finish the "Son of a Witch" mission, and seek out a quest titled "The Ditcher." The mission that ensues is sure to make fans of The Witcher laugh with glee, as the series' main protagonist, Geralt of Rivia, is relentlessly parodied.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands' Witcher Quest

Tiny Tina Wonderlands Gerritt of Trivia

Once "The Ditcher" quest has been accepted, the player will need to head to Sunfang Oasis to start the quest. Here, the player will open a mysterious chest, and will immediately hear an old British voice proclaiming that the player has "doomed us all." To the right side of the chest, a figure teleports in.

The mysterious figure wears a white shirt, with a leather belt strapped around his shoulder and waist. His white hair is slicked back into a ponytail. Upon interacting with him, he'll announce that he is the famous "Gerritt of Trivia. Hunter of monsters, slayer of daemons... kisser of witches." This does just about summarize everyone's favorite Witcher.

Gerritt tells the player that they've accidentally unleashed the spirit of Salissa, an evil water Goddess of the snake-like Coiled species. As Salissa possesses some Coiled guards, Gerritt makes a speedy exit, saying he'll "be back in a second."

Once the guards have been dealt with, Gerritt tasks the player with freeing Salissa's mortal body, so they can ultimately kill her once and for all. As the player journeys forward, Gerritt exclaims that "walking is for peasants," and promptly teleports away once more.

As the player makes their way through the temple, slaughtering waves of possessed Coiled soldiers, Gerritt reveals more about his life, regaling the player with tales of how many monsters he's slew, and how "bards sing of [his] legendary tales," a clear reference to the iconic "Toss a Coin to Your Witcher" song from the Netflix Witcher show.

To top of his tall tales, Gerritt claims that he "once bedded a woman while atop a unicorn," which is a reference to an infamous Witcher 3 scene that sees Geralt do just that. The player is then tasked with collecting the hearts of some Seawarts, and Gerritt takes his leave once again, saying that he can't stay as he needs to gather reagents for oils and potions for the upcoming fight with Salissa.

The player-character and their companions then question Tiny Tina on why she's made this character such a "jerk-face," to which she simply replies that "not everyone is sunshine and candy balls. Some people's got issues. He's one of 'em!" After collecting the Seawarts' hearts, Gerritt tasks the players with finding the Everfrost Icetomb.

The player then needs to kill Salissa's closest allies, and return their banners to the Icetomb. Meanwhile, Valentine relays that Gerritt is growing on him, pointing to his "no-nonsense, gruff demeanor" as being "weirdly charming."

Once the banners are returned, Salissa's spirit is released. The player then heads to the Shrine of the Goddesses, and summons Salissa's spirit, who promptly takes over the Shrine's curator. The player then needs to find the Goddess' Bident, and begins the battle with Salissa's true form.

Gerritt stands alongside the player and gives a rousing speech, boisterously claiming that he will slay Salissa. Salissa cuts him off, and crushes Gerritt in one blow. It's then up to the player to take down Salissa alone. Upon defeating the Goddess, the player is congratulated by the freed Coiled people.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
