Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep: A Wonderlands One-shot Adventure, the remastered version of the game, is now free on PC for a limited time. Publisher 2K treated the game to a generous 100% discount as part of a massive Steam spring sale that kicked off on March 16.
Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep was initially released as an add-on campaign for Borderlands 2 in June 2013. Set in a world inspired by tabletop RPGs, the expansion ended up being the most critically acclaimed experience out of all four Borderlands 2 DLCs, based on aggregate ratings. In 2021, Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep got a surprise next-gen release in the form of a standalone remaster subtitled A Wonderlands One-shot Adventure, which launched on both consoles and PC.
This enhanced version of Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep is now free on Steam. The promotional period runs until 10 AM PT on March 23, with 2K framing its offer as a perfect way for fans to retread or familiarize themselves with the chaotic events leading up to 2022's Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, a standalone sequel that Steam users can currently grab for $29.99, or half off its full retail price. Given the absolute nature of the latest Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep discount, taking advantage of this deal doesn't even require linking a debit card with Steam, as the game will instantly be added to a connected account without a checkout screen, for free and forever.
Assault on Dragon Keep's sequel, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, was one of two Borderlands spinoffs that 2K released in 2022, alongside graphic adventure New Tales from the Borderlands. Seeing how the latest mainline installment in the hit franchise will be pushing five come September 2023, some fans have already been wondering how much longer they will have to wait for Borderlands 4.
And while Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford already hinted that the highly anticipated game is in the works in mid-2021, the studio also appears to be planning more adventures starring Tiny Tina. Pitchford even referred to Tiny Tina's Wonderlands as a "franchise" in September 2022, stating that the game surpassed all of the company's critical and commercial expectations.
The standalone version of Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep wasn't as universally acclaimed as the original DLC. However, a lot of its negative player reviews on Steam seem to be motivated by the fact that the game's regular $10 price doesn't seem worth it relative to how often the GOTY edition of Borderlands 2 — which includes the expansion — goes on sale. Be that as it may, it's hard to argue with free.
