The Borderlands franchise received a new entry not long ago, with Borderlands 3 launching in 2019. However, it looks like a new spin-off game is now in the works, with Gearbox officially revealing Tiny Tina's Wonderlands during Summer Game Fest this morning. The game borrows many concepts from the Borderlands franchise, but will apparently adopt a ton of unique new concepts too.

While brief, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands' announcement trailer does give a decent look at the game's visual style, which uses the same cel-shaded look that the Borderlands games have. The trailer kicks off with a character working a forge, a dragon looming in the background. As the dragon attacks, the hooded character whips around and starts firing with his gun. Fans get a look at the two battling against each other, the hooded man firing a gun and then eventually spells at one another. Finally, viewers see Butt Stallion cross the screen.

The trailer goes on to list some of the voice actors that will be featured in the game, with the likes of Andy Samberg, Will Arnett, Wanda Sykes, and, of course, Tiny Tina voice actress Ashly Burch. The trailer then takes a moment to highlight the ever-popular Butt Stallion from Borderlands 2 as a character once more. It's an impressive cast, with a surprising number of Hollywood celebrities filling out its ranks. Though, it is getting a bit more common to see big-name actors get involved with games.

Following Tiny Tina's Wonderlands' announcement, Tiny Tina's voice actress, Ashly Burch, took to the stage to confirm some additional information about the game. It will be a high-fantasy take on a looter shooter, and is inspired by Assault on Dragon Keep, one of Borderlands 2's most popular DLC packs. However, it will be a distinct game from the Borderlands games, Burch says.

Some fans might not be surprised to see the game being announced. Tiny Tina's Wonderlands leaked a few days early, and while fans didn't have any real details on it, it's something that many people anticipated showing up either at Summer Game Fest or during one of the many E3 conferences happening over the course of the next week. While the trailer is fairly light on details about what kind of game Tiny Tina's Wonderlands will be, fans should, hopefully, start learning more soon now that it's been announced. At the very least, it's good to see a popular Borderlands character get to stretch their legs outside of the mainline franchise.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is in development.
