Call of Duty: Warzone plays like most other battle royales, but it does add an interesting variation with the Gulag. After their first death, players get a chance to respawn if they can beat another player in a head-to-head match.

Usually, losing a Gulag match can be very disheartening, as it's more embarrassing to lose to a single player than something like an incredible C4 drone strike. But players don't always lose simply because their opponents outplayed them, as is the case in a recent clip of Call of Duty: Warzone streamer Timothy "TimTheTatman" Betar losing a Gulag fight... due to a hilariously well-timed rock throw.

TimTheTatman was streaming Call of Duty: Warzone on Thursday alongside fellow streamers Doug "DougisRaw" Wolf and Guy "Dr Disrespect" Beahm, which is surprising considering how much Dr Disrespect dislikes the game. Throughout the stream, TimTheTatman kept bragging about his Gulag record, saying he never loses when he gets sent there.

Once he was inevitably sent there, he decided to tempt fate further by telling Dr Disrespect to watch him as he showed why people called him "Gulag Gary." Click here to watch Gulag Gary in action.

Call of Duty: Warzone players should know that although Gulag matches are strictly 1-on-1, spectators standing above the arena can throw rocks into the pit and at players. It just so happened that a spectator was throwing rocks at TimTheTatman, one of which actually hit a proximity mine he had placed right in front of him. The result was both surprising and hilarious as "Gulag Gary" was killed right in front of his opponent. The spectator even got credited with the kill.

The rocks only do a little bit of damage and are more useful for pointing out where a player may be hiding, but they have been proven to be more lethal than annoying before. It's rare, but Gulag fights can end with a well-aimed rock throw. The game's narrators even encourage spectators sent to the Gulag to throw rocks as they wait for their turn in the arena, and it's much fairer than some of the bugs that kill players in the Gulag.

As funny as all that was, maybe TimTheTatman should retire "Gulag Gary" for a while and give Modern Warfare's multiplayer a try instead. Not only has it received an update that fixes an attachment exploit and bugs, but Activision has also announced that Modern Warfare's multiplayer mode will be free to play this weekend, giving players a chance to try out what the 2019 shooter has to offer. To access the free weekend, players will need to already have Warzone installed. Once the free weekends go live, five maps from Modern Warfare will be available to play through the Warzone lobby.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
