TikTok is a treasure trove of viral internet trends. What started as a platform for short-form videos of people doing dancing challenges and entertaining skits, TikTok has evolved into a space where people can share their ideas for others to interact and make content with. These can range from viral songs used in trends like You're My Bird to unique filters.

The latest trend that's taking over TikTok is the Crazy Parking filter. Created by TikToker and indie game developer Cristiano Bartel (bartel_games), it's a game that challenges users to park a virtual car on various obstacles and get the highest score possible. It's an interesting take on gamified filters that have been popular on TikTok and Instagram Reels, like Flying Face, which is a Flappy Bird clone, and the colorblind quiz. But Crazy Parking seems to have evolved from a regular filter to a storyline that many TikTokers became invested in.

The Lore of TikTok's Crazy Parking Filter

Since November 30, Bartel has uploaded over 20 Crazy Parking filters to his TikTok page, where many users flock to take on the challenge. The filters feature various vehicles, such as sedans, an ambulance, and even Santa Claus' sleigh for the holiday edition. Each filter offers new challenges for players, which is why some consider it one of the hardest games right now.

Cristiano Bartel is one of the founders of PixelHive, the developer of the '90s-inspired platformer Kaze and the Wild Masks , which was released in 2021.

Millions of TikTok users have used the Crazy Parking filter on their videos, which has easily become one of the most popular TikTok filters right now. Although the hype seems to have slowed down compared to last month, it's still gaining a lot of traction — not just from people trying to beat their high scores, but also those who are trying to figure out the lore behind the games. Many TikTok users like elisalley, who's known for his "Filter Theory" videos, started reading into the Crazy Parking filter's cars and the possible backstory of the people driving them. His theory is that the three Lamborghinis (yellow, green, and blue) that players often see in the filters are driven by brothers. The so-called brothers allegedly got into a jetski accident after Crazy Parking part 10, where the jetski can be seen being pulled by the blue Lamborghini. According to elisalley, this would explain why a "mom jeep" started driving the brothers around from Crazy Parking part 12 to 14.

The Crazy Parking lore gets more intense as TikTok user ethancaf pointed out that there's actually an antagonist that drives a purple Lamborghini, which he refers to as the "evil Lambo." In Crazy Parking part 22, he said the filter took a dark turn as players could push a purple Lamborghini off a bridge while trying to park a truck. In another video, ethancaf noticed that two new "evil" Lamborginis were added to Crazy Parking, while the protagonist was now driving a motorcycle. He predicts that this new development will greatly expand the filter's lore in Bartel's next uploads.

TikTok filter theories seem to be a growing trend on the platform as they're reminiscent of lore videos popularized by Game Theory on YouTube. In fact, there are already some fans online who have suggested covering the Crazy Parking lore on the channel. It's actually impressive to see the massive attention that the filter has gotten because of the fan theories, especially considering that Bartel probably didn't intend to tell a fully fleshed-out story with his filter-slash-mini-game.

Probably the most interesting thing about this is that Bartel is being praised for creating an exciting parking game and driving mechanic that users could experience in Grand Theft Auto. Many TikTok users even said that Rockstar Games should hire him for future GTA titles. Whether that happens or not, it seems like Bartel won't stop uploading Crazy Parking filters and other variants on his TikTok anytime soon.
