The upcoming Soulslike Thymesia is less than three months away from its official release, after facing a slight delay to its progress and release date. This addition to the ever expanding Soulslike genre brings its players to another dark, brutal, medieval setting, in a kingdom ravaged by a strange plague. The hero to Thymesia is the mysterious Corvus, a powerful amnesiac who dons a plague mask and stalks the streets of the unnamed kingdom to rid it of its affliction.

Since its announcement, publisher Team17 has thankfully shared plenty of details regarding Thymesia's gameplay mechanics through trailers. The London-based studio has also published a number of screenshots which showcase the broody setting that players can look forward to exploring.

Partner Announcement Trailer

This initial announcement introduces prospective fans to the dark, gruesome world of the upcoming Soulslike game Thymesia. The trailer also showcases some of the game's combat mechanics, alongside a few of its bosses and what looks to be a number of quick-time events. While British studio Team17, developer of Worms and Overcooked 2, will be publishing Thymesia, the trailer announced that Taiwanese studio OverBorder Studio spearheads the game's development.

A World of Plague and Alchemy

Thymesia's dark, medieval setting is explained and showcased in this trailer. It takes players into the game's "world of alchemy" that finds itself ruined by a mysterious plague. The main character Corvus – an enigmatic half-human, half-raven – is also named in this trailer, and its narration explains that players will obtain various skills alongside utilizing Thymesia's plague weapons, each of which can be upgraded via a skill tree.

Launch Delay Announcement

The trailer starts off with Corvus losing to a boss while wearing a swanky top hat before bringing the unfortunate news of Thymesia's launch date delay. Originally forecasted to be released in late 2021, the game's release was delayed to sometime in 2022. Throughout this one-minute video, more combat gameplay was showcased, giving players another taste of what is still to come.

Dodging

While this skill is available in most action RPG games, this trailer shows how much more important dodging is to its gameplay experience, showcasing the importance of player builds in Thymesia. Dodging is an upgradeable Talent, which plays a large role in a player's overall journey into the dark, plague-infested kingdom. Players can look forward to unlocking different styles of dodging to suit their gameplay style, among other Talents.

Deflecting

This gameplay trailer discusses another important mechanic in Thymesia: deflecting. Deflecting is yet another skill that Corvus utilizes to gain the upper hand in battle. Players can also look forward to tweaking this skill to fit their personal playstyle via the skill tree.

Release Date Announcement

Uploaded in early May, this trailer finally gives excited Soulslike fans a date to look forward to: August 9, 2022. The Thymesia release date trailer also showcased a much smoother gameplay experience, with what looks to be enhanced graphics compared to previous trailers, making it seem like Thymesia is definitely closer to completion and its release.

Feathers

This most recent gameplay trailer explains Corvus' 'feather' attack. The feather attack is meant to act like a stun, thrown just as an enemy is about to inflict a critical attack, or as a parry for more melee-focused gamers. Players who utilize this skill well will inflict initial damage on the enemy as well as create an opening to land more devastating strikes. The attack will become more helpful as it's upgraded.

Every Thymesia Screenshot

Aside from the trailers themselves, the screenshots above give prospective players a taste of what mood they can expect to experience while playing Thymesia. While none of these areas have been named yet, the screenshots certainly do their job in providing the look and feel of the upcoming Soulslike.

Thymesia launches August 9, 2022, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
