On the latest episode of AEW Dynamite, Thunder Rosa was scheduled to take on Jade Cargill. To prepare for the significance of the match, Rosa channeled an X-Men character to carry her into battle. For the past several weeks, Rosa and Cargill have attacked one another in lieu of their match in the TBS Tournament.

The match between Rosa and Cargill was the final semi-final match in AEW's tournament to crown the inaugural TBS Champion. The crowning falls on AEW's first show on the TBS network on January 5.

For their semi-final match, Rosa suited up in blue and yellow gear inspired by Wolverine. Rosa's traditional face paint supported her wardrobe choice, as it consisted of matching shades of royal blue and gold. To add to the presentation of the character, Rosa adorned each of her hands with the signature claws of the X-Men hero. In sharing a glimpse of her gear on social media, Rosa captioned the heroic photograph: "Ready to kill..."

Rosa's gear was an intentional choice for her match against Cargill. Cargill has often found herself compared to the X-Men character, Storm. To commence Cargill's entrance, "A storm is coming," is spoken ahead of her music. Cargill entered her match with Rosa with an impressive undefeated streak of over 18 victories since her debut earlier this year. The winner of the match between Cargill and Rosa is scheduled to face Ruby Soho in the finals for the TBS Tournament. Soho picked up the win over Nyla Rose on last week's episode of Dynamite to advance to the finals.

Despite her triumphant and heroic gear, Rosa and Cargill's match ultimately ended after Rosa was attacked by a masked assailant. Mark Sterling, who always accompanies Cargill to the ring, distracted the referee so that Cargill's masked friend would be able to assist her in gaining the win. The distraction was enough to allow Cargill to advance to the finals in the TBS Tournament. After Cargill's victory, the masked assailant was revealed as former WWE star Mercedes Martinez. Martinez has wrestled for AEW before but after her release from WWE earlier this year, Martinez has once again found herself a member of the AEW roster. This time, her appearance in AEW seems much more permanent.

With Martinez costing Rosa a huge victory, Rosa will likely be out for revenge in the weeks to come. Martinez will be the likely target for Rosa's rage, though it's possible that her alliance with Cargill means that the bad blood between Rosa and Cargill is far from over. Now that Cargill is set to take on Soho in the finals of the TBS Tournament next week, Rosa may decide to return the favor and involve herself in the match to guarantee that Cargill isn't crowned the inaugural TBS Champion.

AEW Dynamite's first show on TBS will air live from Newark, New Jersey on January 5, 2022.
