THQ Nordic has announced its summer gaming showcase, the first in what will surely be a growing list of publisher showcases this summer. THQ also released a brief trailer and a small blog post on the THQ Nordic website detailing what to expect from the publisher’s second annual gaming showcase. This year, the publisher is promising tons of variety from its lineup for all types of gamers.

Historically, the summer months are when the gaming industry comes together to show fans what they have all been working on and what new games they can expect to play towards the end of the year. This year a staple of summer gaming conferences will be missing as E3 2022 is canceled in both physical and digital form. In the wake of E3’s news, major publishers will likely announce their own showcases independent from the E3 banner, THQ Nordic being the first publisher to do so. THQ Nordic’s first independent event was 2021’s 10th Anniversary Showcase.

Players should “Save the Date” for THQ Nordic’s Summer Gaming Showcase on August 12, 2022, starting at 12 pm PDT/3 pm EDT. THQ Nordic’s blog post announcing the showcase states that the event will be streamed on YouTube and Twitch. An accompanying trailer shows what titles players can expect to see at the showcase, including SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake, Outcast 2: A New Beginning, and the new Saints Row. The handful of games on display today should only scratch the surface of what's to come. THQ Nordic promises to bring a tremendous amount of variety to its showcase ranging from original IP to existing licenses.

Since THQ’s revival with Nordic in 2016, the company has been on a hot streak of game releases. In recent years the publisher has released some well-received games such as This is the Police and ELEX 2, along with a myriad of remasters, including Destroy All Humans!, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated, and Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. THQ Nordic’s Summer Gaming Showcase will more than likely continue THQ’s trend of releasing high-quality and unique IPs while remastering fan-favorite games from previous console generations.

However, THQ Nordic won’t be alone this year in producing gaming showcases. In E3’s absence, Geoff Keighley has stepped forward and taken the reigns from the former conference juggernaut. Keighley will be spearheading this season of game announcements with Summer Game Fest 2022, which will likely span multiple weeks throughout the summer. The recent announcements of Summer Game Fest and THQ Nordic’s Summer Gaming Showcase are only the start of what will be a slew of publisher showcase announcements in the coming weeks.
