Marvel Studios has released yet another trailer for the upcoming film, Thor: Love and Thunder. The new trailer features plenty of action and comedic bits, as well as a look at some unnamed celestials.
The Thor: Love and Thunder trailer from Marvel Studios begins with the film's villain, Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), decimating a planet as Thor (Chris Hemsworth) explains that he's putting together a team to fight against this maniac. We then see Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) ask Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) if she's packed, to which she reveals a giant sword. This newly assembled team flies off into the distance on a chariot pulled by some screaming goats, passing by two mighty celestials who watch them intently.
In the new trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder, Thor begins to name off the member of his team, which includes Valkyrie, Jane, everyone's favorite blue rock monster, Korg (Taika Waititi), and of course The Guardians of the Galaxy. He then touts The most important addition to the team, a pair of screaming goats who pull his flying chariot, and who appear to cause absolute chaos wherever they go. The rest of the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer features lots of quick action cuts, including the god of thunder himself going full Jean-Claude Van Damme and doing the splits to stop two bad guys. The trailer ends on a comedic note with Thor attempting to teach Peter Quill/ Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) an "Asgardian Handshake" in what is probably an improvised moment.
In case casual viewers need a refresher, the celestials are giant ancient species that date back to the beginning of the Marvel universe. They were seen briefly in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie but were more heavily featured in the 2021 Marvel Studios film, Eternals. In that film, the Eternals are a group of super-powered beings that are sent to earth by a celestial named Arishem to fight the deviants. However, over the course of the film, they learn that they have actually been sent to earth to ensure an event known as the emergence: a phenomenon that involves the birth of a celestial, which will destroy the planet
Thankfully, the Eternals stop this from happening, but clearly, based on this new Thor: Love and Thunder trailer, the celestials will still play a role in the MCU going forward. Considering that they are basically gods within the MCU, it's possible that they might be targeted by Gorr the God Butcher.
Thor: Love and Thunder premieres in theaters on July 8th, 2022.
