The Necrosword gives the wielder of such a weapon great power. The power has not yet been seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With Thor: Love and Thunder, fans got a glimpse into the potential of the Necrosword and what could be possible in the future of the MCU.

The Necrosword

The weapon that Christian Bale's Gorr comes into contact with in Thor: Love and Thunder is called the Necrosword. In the MCU, it is feared and well-known by all the gods as a weapon capable of killing them. For the comic, this weapon is a bladed sword created out of a living abyss.

The Necrosword is a living symbiote, like how Venom is a symbiote. It had survived centuries and been the weapon of Gorr the God Butcher, giving him access to all sorts of inhuman abilities and demonic uses.

Inhuman Abilities

Although Gorr is an alien that possesses no superhuman abilities, with the Necrosword, he is on the verge of godhood. Despite this, he resents the power, as he hates all gods, even himself, if he was to become one. The Necrosword grants Gorr immortality, as it binds with him to create a long life.

Gorr could use the Necrosword to travel through shadows and put fear into the hearts of innocence and gods, as they would not know where he was hiding amongst the dark. He could use the Necrosword to create talon-like nails on his fingers and even used it to replace the arm that Thor cut off.

All-Black Symbiote

The Necrosword is made from the first Symbiote, All-Black. This first Symbiote was manifested from the shadow of the evil deity known as Knull and tempered using the divine power of a slain Celestial. Fans of the MCU have seen Celestials before, but not Knull. Not yet, anyway.

When Knull was defeated in a battle with a golden god, All-Black left its master to bond itself to the bystander who watched it unfold, Gorr. Gorr felt its power and became The God Butcher. All-Black fed off of the blood of slain gods and the evil that corrupted Gorr.

Gorr’s Usage

In the far future of Earth-14412, Gorr used the Necrosword for far more than just stabbing gods. It had a higher purpose, a greater use to construct an artificial planetoid at the edge of space. This served as Gorr’s base for 900 years. The purpose was to build a Godbomb. An unholy mass of destruction that could be detonated and destroy all gods across the universe.

Gorr used the Necrosword as both the payload of the Godbomb and its detonator. The usage of the Necrosword by Gorr would far surpass the original intention of All-Black, as all gods would be eradicated once and for all, without the feeding of blood.

God Butchering

Before Gorr’s grand scheme of eradicating all gods through the use of a bomb, Gorr went planet to planet, murdering gods in his image. There were certainly no words to be minced when describing Gorr. There was a reason he was given the title of God Butcher rather than just “God Killer.”

Gorr tortured gods to a cruel degree. Hanging some on meathooks, or cutting off limbs and leaving them to bleed out for others. Gorr was a monster, and the Necrosword allowed him to be so cruel in his ways. He even used the Necrosword to torture Thor back in the 9th century.

Black Berserkers

After being defeated by Thor and his human worshipers centuries ago, Gorr found new power in the Necrosword. This was seen in Thor: Love and Thunder, in which Gorr creates unnamed shadow demons that help him fight Thor and his allies. However, these creatures have more life in Marvel Comics.

Gorr discovers that he can create Black Berserkers. The All-Black Necrosword can manifest these semi-sentient creatures out of himself. He could leave a few behinds, almost like a calling card after murdering a pantheon of gods. Even Thor struggled with their power, and they were used to capture gods for Gorr’s grand scheme.

Found In The Aftermath

On a planet with no name, Gorr lost his parents, his wife, and his children. All in the worship of a God who never answered his prayers, that became pleas and begs. The planet was desolate, a horrid desert with no food or water. One day, outcast and on the verge of death, Gorr sees a pair of battling gods crash into the surface of his world.

A golden god begs Gorr for help, to which Gorr sees himself transformed by the Necrosword. Imbued with power, Gorr uses the new weapon to kill his first god and then swears that all of them will die after. It was a matter of fate for the Necrosword to land practically at Gorr’s feet when he was on the verge of death. A sign to him that all gods needed to meet his vengeance.

Knull, God Of Symbiotes

A great threat that could be a true danger to even an Avengers movie, Knull. The creator of the Necrosword, Knull, wielded it to kill gods long before Gorr took the weapon. Knull was born into the primordial void and claimed dominion over it as its avatar. He is a true threat to the cosmos and the creator of all Symbiotes.

Knull waged a one-man war against the Light and was a divine figure of terror that battled gods. He found himself trapped and alone on a nameless planet after Gorr stole his blade and continued his mission. For the MCU, Knull could very well be still on that planet, waiting for the right moment to strike terror into the universe.
