Thor: Love and Thunder is surprisingly not doing well in reviews as far as Metacritic scores go. The aggregate is in the 50s, putting it in the yellow which is rare for an MCU movie. There are so many aggregate sites out there though that it is hard to favor one over the other.

Also, opinions on movies, especially Marvel ones, can be wildly different depending on what fans want. Some may want a hardcore action movie starring the lightning-approved superhero. Others may like the idea that Thor: Love and Thunder is more of a comedy. Whatever the case may be, there is certainly plenty of good things to highlight in the movie without the need to excessively spoil things.

8 All Of The Stormbreaker Stuff

Thor and Stormbreaker in Thor Love and Thunder

Stormbreaker is a cool ax that was created in the most metal way possible in the earlier MCU films. It’s funny that such a badass weapon would get jealous over another via Mjolnir. There are a lot of great moments of jealousy in Thor: Love and Thunder including the multiple times Stormbreaker appears in the corner off camera. It’s also hilarious when Thor plummets to Earth after arguing with his trusty ax. Thor has had some wild powers and weapons in the comics, but a jealous ax takes the cake.

7 The Guardians Of The Galaxy

Starlord in Thor Love and Thunder

Fans hoping to see this film filled with the Guardians of the Galaxy will be disappointed. Starlord and his fellow space-faring heroes have a brief role at the beginning of the film before setting off on a new mission without Thor. Thor: Love and Thunder sets the scene for what should be the third movie. Will that involve one of Gorr’s minions or a relative of the Necrosword? It’s hard to say but what should be said is that even the smallest snippets of Starlord and the others were great.

6 The Stage Play Returns

Matt Damon, Luke Hemsworth, and Sam Neil return to play their parts of Loki, Thor, and Odin respectively in this film. There is a new addition as well, Melissa McCarthy, who is playing Hela.

The four of them are acting out moments of Thor Ragnarok for the tourists of New Asgard. The play is just as cheesy as it was in earlier films except that Damon and Hemsworth get one extra scene. A Disney+ spinoff or short about them could be funny.

5 Gorr The God Butcher

Gorr in Thor Love and Thunder

Christian Bale is no stranger to superhero movies. He played Batman for years, even though there were only three movies. It was about time he crossed over into Marvel territory and Gorr was a great character for him to play. The only issue is that the film doesn’t spend enough time with him. The audience can get why Gorr turns evil which is important for a fully realized villain. As brief as they are, every scene Gorr is in is great as he is the embodiment of shadows and it is creepy.

4 Gorr’s World Of Darkness

Thor in Thor Love and Thunder

Gorr deserves another shoutout for the fight scene that takes place in his darkened realm. It’s here that he cleverly leads Thor, and the others, into a trap. The way Gorr toys with them one by one as vines slowly strangle their bodies is intense. Will Thor choose his love for Jane over the fate of the gods? That part won’t be spoiled here but let’s say things get pretty close. How colors are muted is also why this dark universe is a cool point in Thor: Love and Thunder.

3 A Lot Of Great Lines

Korg in Thor Love and Thunder

Thor: Love and Thunder continues where Thor Ragnarok left off in terms of comedy. This film might not have the best action scenes in the MCU or the most consistent plot. What it does have is a lot of hilarious lines.

Most of those lines can be chalked up to Thor who kills it. Whether it’s that aforementioned scene involving him arguing with Stormbreaker, or how he wants to feel “shitty” about his love of Jane, it’s all good. “We shall not feast on the children” is a great line that specifically needs to get called out even out of context. Thor is a true gem even out of the standard comic mythology.

2 Zeus Getting Owned

A scene featuring characters

Zeus and the city of the gods were all over the trailers for this movie. Zeus and his fellow gods don’t have a huge role in Thor: Love and Thunder though unlike the planet Thor visits in Thor Ragnarok. That’s because Thor owns Zeus in the funniest way possible, forcing his allies to help fight their way out of the city. It is surely a moment that will make fans drop their jaws in disbelief. Is he truly dead or is there more to it? How Zeus gets owned and if he is still alive will remain a mystery for viewers who haven’t seen the movie yet.

1 A Brief Two Hours

Valkyrie and Jane in Thor Love and Thunder

It might sound weird to praise a film that clocks in at two hours but that is only half of why Thor’s latest adventure is great. The pacing is truly what should be highlighted here as not a second is wasted. Fans might come out of this film wishing there was more which is also one of Thor: Love and Thunder’s downfalls. There are a lot of ideas in it that aren’t fully realized. They shouldn’t make fans feel awkward or empty though. It’s just that there is no time to soak in certain aspects which may or may not be a flaw depending on the viewer.
