Pokémon is one of the biggest gaming franchises in the world and along with that, it is one of the most looked through and analyzed series in the world. Fans go through each and every game to find every little secret, bug, and glitch possible. Despite all the work that these hardcore fans put in, there are still a few things that most fans didn't know that they could do in Pokémon games.

So we've gathered some of the biggest secrets and things you didn't know that you could do from the entirety of the Pokémon games franchise.

10 Evolve Magikarp into Gyarados - Pokémon Snap

This little secret that is hidden in Pokémon Snap not only lets you get snaps of every Pokémon possible in a level but also references some of the inspirations that the Pokémon involved have. At a certain level in Pokémon Snap, you can throw bait into a waterfall to bait a Magikarp to go into it.

After a few seconds, we see a massive Gyarados come out of the waterfall. This not only lets you take a snap of the newly evolved Gyarados but also references the story of the salmon climbing the waterfall to become a dragon.

9 Have Pikachu On Your Shoulder - Pokémon GO

Pokémon GO took the world by storm when it was first released back in July of 2016 and brought back attention to the franchise which, while it was still going fairly strong, was at a low point. The game had a ton of Pokémon and even head a few references and callbacks to the other games and even the TV series.

One call back to the show was the ability to have a Pikachu, the mascot fo the series, on your should in a similar style to Ash, the main character of the series.

8 Unlock A Special Move - Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee

Something you don't see a lot of in gaming is doing actual real-life, physical things to the hardware in order to change the game. The Pokémon games series has been known to do this though, most well known is having to turn the 3DS upside-down to evolve certain Pokémon.

When players play Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee in either docked or tabletop mode, there is a small chance that a prompt will appear during battles that allow Pikachu to do a special move that could be 'devastating' to opponents. If you're not using Pikachu, there is a small chance that the Pokémon you are using will receive a buff.

7 Walking Around For Bonuses  - Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee

Sticking with Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee for this next entry. It seems that Pokémon GO had more of an influence on the Pokémon series that most would have thought. With the companion tool, Pokémon Plus, you are able to make your Pokémon like Tamagotchi in many ways.

You can insert whatever Pokémon you like into the ball and walk around with it. If you do this for long enough you will gain experience for that Pokémon and even some items like rare candy.

6 Hidden Sidequest  - Pokémon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum

Generation 4 is a lot of people's favorite out of the entire series. This is mainly because the games, Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum had a ton of content but some of it was cut out. There were supposed to be hidden sidequests so you could capture Darkrai, Arceus, and Shaymin but unfortunately, this content was unable to be seen outside of Japan because of the items needed to start them never being released outside the country.

In order to access them outside the west, you need to hack into the game.

5 Special Event In Snowpoint City - Pokémon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum

The interesting thing about Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum are that the games utilized the internal calendar that the DS had to affect the game. If you visit Snowpoint city on January 12th, or whenever you make it that date on your calendar, you’ll notice a special weather pattern known as Diamond Dust takes place.

The date of January 12th references the birthday of Game Freak Director Junichi Masuda. This event can be seen on other special dates like the days that other Pokémon games launch.

4 Fish In Gym Statues - Pokémon Red/Blue

This is an old one, so you might have already heard about it. The first game in the series, especially considering when it was released, usually contains a few bugs and since it came out on the original Gameboy, there were no patches to fix these glitches.

In most gyms (except for the Saffron and Cinnabar Gyms) and the Indigo road in the original Pokémon Red and Blue games you can actually use your fishing rod on the statues there, nothing will come out of them but it's still interesting that the animation happens like normal.

3 Clone Pokémon - Pokémon Red/Blue

We all have that Pokémon that we just want more of but you just can't or it's really hard. This is especially the case with starters and legendary Pokémon, like Charmander and Mewtwo. Luckily, there is a glitch in the original Pokémon Red and Blue games that allows a player to clone their Pokémon.

There are two possible methods and both are somewhat complicated, but the first and most popular one requires you to save in front of a Pokécenter and shut off the game.

2 See Your Father - Pokémon  Ruby/ Sapphire

This might be a bit of a weird entry on this list and we can't blame you. This is a thing you probably didn't think about when you were playing any generation 3 Pokémon games but it can be a real lightbulb moment. In most Pokémon games, you play the game with only one parent and that is almost always your mom.

This leads a lot of fans to theorize about what happens to the dads in the Pokémon world and also what professor Oak and your mom are doing while you're gone. This is why it is surprising to have your father be an active part of the story in Generation 3.

1 Get A Special Pikachu Or Eevee - Pokémon Sword/Shield

If you played either of the Pokémon Let's Go games and then bought either Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield, well then you probably have a little present waiting for you. At the Wild Area Station, you can get the Pikachu or Eevee that match the save data, meaning it's the same Pokémon.

These Pokémon also get their own Gigantamax forms, with Pikachu going back to his old school "Thicc" design and Eevee getting a thick and luscious mane.
