The Witcher, Netflix's hit fantasy series based on the books written by Andrzej Sapkowski, which also spawned a series of games, is set to come back for season 2 this year. Is it possible that The Witcher Season 2 will be even better than season 1? It certainly is. For those who are not familiar with the Netflix show, though that will probably not be many people given the show's popularity, it follows the adventures of Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill).

Geralt is a Witcher or monster hunter. Yet, he finds that sometimes human beings can be more dangerous than the monsters he's hunting. Along with Geralt's adventures, season 1 of The Witcher follows the sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) and princess Cirilla (Freya Allan), also known as Ciri, of Cintra. The three main characters are all very intriguing, especially now that their stories have converged.

Season 1 of The Witcher featured a confusing timeline, though it was there for a valid reason. Fortunately for confused fans, The Witcher Season 2 will be a lot easier to follow. Now that Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri are on the same timeline, fans are in for a treat. The next season of the Netflix series was always bound to be exciting, yet it is possible, given certain factors, that it will be better than Season 1.

It's impossible to know for sure without seeing the show itself, yet it's possible to speculate based on what is known so far. The Witcher Season 2 will be welcoming fans back to The Continent with a bang, it seems. Before getting into how it's important to recall where fans left the main characters at the end of season 1. Geralt finally met his child of surprise, Ciri.

Yennefer was left in a dire situation after a big battle. And Ciri has finally met her destiny in the form of Geralt. Now that Geralt and Ciri have finally met, The Witcher Season 2 can develop their familial relationship. It would also be interesting to have Ciri meet Yennefer, though whether or not that happens depends on Yennefer's fate after the battle. It certainly seems up in the air. So Ciri and Yennefer might have to meet later on.

There will also be new faces joining the cast, including a familiar one from Game of Thrones. Kristofer Hivju will be portraying Nivellen in The Witcher Season 2. Nivellen is cursed to appear like a monster and wants Geralt's help reversing the curse. His story is similar to that of Beauty and the Beast, though it is much darker.

Other intriguing characters cast in The Witcher Season 2 include Philippa Eilhart(Cassie Clare), a powerful sorceress who is an advisor to the king of Redania, and Nenneke (Adjoa Andoh), priestess of the temple of Melitele. Nenneke has helped many regain their health, including Geralt himself.

In addition, viewers are going to meet a bunch of new Witchers at Kaer Morhen this season. It will likely be interesting to compare and contrast Geralt with other Witchers, to see the similarities and differences. Geralt will likely still stand out, a bit above the rest. It will also probably be interesting to compare and contrast Philippa with the sorceresses fans already know such as Yennefer. Meeting these characters is not only interesting for fans, it will help to further differentiate the main characters. Yet new characters are not all fans can look forward to.

Since Geralt and Ciri are headed to Kaer Morhen, a place where Witchers are trained, fans are bound to learn more about Witchers. Fans also might get a new perspective on Geralt from the new Witchers that they'll be meeting. Nenneke will probably give another new perspective on Geralt, as she's nursed him back to health in the past. Ciri will be starting to learn how to fight. Based on what is known of The Witcher Season 2, it seems that she will also struggle to control her powers.

This might just catch the attention of The Wild Hunt. Yennefer, meanwhile, is captured by an unknown enemy. So all of the main characters will be dealing with a lot in season 2. The show will continue to deliver intense drama, possibly with some lighter moments mixed in.

Of course, fans will have to wait a while to actually see The Witcher Season 2. And it might be hard for the show to live up to all this hype. Yet if it could wouldn't that be amazing, especially since the Netflix series' second season is highly anticipated? And if it could pull this off, fans would be ecstatic. The writers are definitely going to give it their best effort. And if they could build on what was started in season 1, even that would be wonderful.  Whatever happens, fans are looking forward to seeing more of The Witcher. And given what is known about season 2, it makes sense that they are.
