The fantasy franchise The Witcher has had its fair share of various monsters and enemies that Geralt of Rivia has to fight against. After all, the witchers are primarily known as monster hunters. They make money by accepting contracts that usually (but not always) result in them slaying various beasts.
But Geralt has a special talent to get involved in various other issues, from regicides to multiple romances with beautiful sorceresses. No matter what he's doing at the moment, his position of a monster hunter stays with him. And he faces so many of them that it's easy to forget what some of the most iconic monsters should look like.
10 Wyvern
Wyverns are dangerous not only due to their size but also thanks of their claws and other attributes that make them deadly. They have snake-like necks and long tails that end in a venomous trident. It can be hard for uneducated people to recognize the difference between wyverns and dragons. Dragons are much rarer in the world of The Witcher, while Wyverns also have two muscular legs they use for moving on the ground and sharp teeth. What's also hard to miss are the sharp spikes protruding from their backs.
9 Djinn
Djinns don't have as much space in The Witcher games as other creatures. But considering their importance for the storyline, they deserve a spot on this list. After all, it was a djinn who bound Geralt and Yennefer together in The Last Wish story. The djinns can be difficult to describe since they vary. The one in The Witcher 3 is an air djinn - he emanates blue light, moves fast, and has vaguely human shapes but is much more powerful than any human.
8 Golem
Golems make for excellent guardians and sentries serving to mages and sorceresses. They're not very intelligent nor fast but they're extremely strong and can deal a lot of damage with a single blow. Golems are made of rock and brought to life by magic. They have an obsidian heart placed in their chests and are immune to almost all kinds of attacks, but can be hurt by acid.
7 Succubus
Unlike most monsters on this list, succubi are sentient creatures and there's not always the need to kill them. Geralt can reason with them as well, and not just automatically use violence. They usually take the form of beautiful women with piercing eyes and lovely manes of hair.
What makes them different from human females are the horns protruding from their heads - those also make succubi easy to recognize.
6 Kikimore
Kikimore is one of the monsters that appeared both in the games and in the Netflix series The Witcher as well. Kikimore is an insectoid beast that most often lives underground (caves are its favorites) or in swamps. There are several subspecies, kikimore queens, warriors, and workers, that differ by size. Kikimores look similar to spiders - they have multiple legs and are very swift. However, they're much more poisonous than ordinary spiders.
5 Drowner
Drowners may not seem like such a big deal in comparison to other, deadlier monsters on this list. But that doesn't mean they're not dangerous. For one, they usually move in a group and could swarm Geralt, if he's not careful. Drowners are ugly, tall, and bony. They have slimy green bodies. and their hair is also green. What's interesting about them is that whenever they step, a pool of slimy substance forms beneath them.
4 Ghoul
Ghouls are similarly common as drowners, at least in the world of The Witcher where war often rages. Ghouls reside in cemeteries or battlefields, simply near dead bodies. Ghouls are deadly pale, have spotted skin, and their heads resemble skulls.
They have strong jaws capable of cracking bones and apelike arms that it uses for grabbing its victim before it kills it.
3 Doppler
It's doubtful whether dopplers deserve to be called monsters - but most of The Witcher's society sees them this way even though they're civilized and mostly just want to live in peace. In their natural form, they're not the most handsome of creatures. They're bald, have long noses, yellow eyes, elongated limbs attached to a small body - and let's not forget their long tongues. However, they usually take on another form and are gentle creatures by heart - most of them, anyway.
2 Wraiths
Wraiths are more dangerous than they might look at the first glance. Since they don't have corporeal form, they're hard to kill. The best option is to use the Yrden sign against them. The way wraiths look varies. Some of them may resemble humans in shapes and in face as well (Annabelle from the Towerful of Mice quest, for example). More often than not, however, they resemble skinny, skeleton-like creatures. And noonwraiths can be especially frightening since they look like rotting corpses.
1 Higher Vampire
Higher vampires are fascinating creatures and the only ones on this list witchers can't kill. Only another higher vampire can kill one of its kind. In their human form, they look perfectly ordinary. However, once they change form, their fangs grow more prominent and their ears become pointed. When they get into a battle frenzy, they sprout wings and change into creatures that look like giant bats most of all.
