CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the most beloved open-world fantasy RPGs ever created. Following the adventures of protagonist Geralt of Rivia as he tries to track down his adopted daughter Ciri across The Continent, The Witcher 3 earned itself heaps of critical and collective praise for its sprawling game world, compelling narrative, and intriguing characters.
The Witcher 3 was highly commercially successful, too. The game has sold over thirty million copies since its initial release in 2015, and its fan base is both massive and highly passionate. The Witcher community is known for producing wonderful pieces of fan art celebrating the adored RPG and its many characters in various ways, like stylish painted renditions of lead Witcher Geralt or crossover fan art with other fantasy properties like Assassin’s Creed. While the series’ main characters are often the targets of these pieces of fan art, sometimes more ancillary members of the cast get the same treatment as well.
Reddit user dokk66 has shared a beautiful work produced by the artist JustAnoR featuring one of these secondary characters. JustAnor’s art showcases recurring series medic and possible love interest to Geralt, Shani in a stunning portrait-esque piece of the Hearts of Stone character. The warmly tinted sketch displays an impressively accurate adaptation of Shani, capturing her striking red hair and distinctive facial features.
The post has been a hit with the Witcher Subreddit, earning over 1.5 thousand upvotes. Other Reddit users are praising JustAnoR’s depiction of Shani, calling the sketch both lovely and beautiful. JustAnoR has plenty of other pieces of art from a multitude of games like Assasssin’s Creed Valhalla and Red Dead Redemption 2 available for viewing on their Deviant Art page.
While The Witcher’s central cast of Geralt, Ciri, Yennefer, and Triss certainly deserve their elevated status, there are plenty of other captivating characters like Shani in the series worthy of fans’ love too. The Bloody Baron’s questline in The Witcher 3 is absolutely riveting and the mysterious 'Merchant of Mirrors' Gaunter O’Dimm is a fan favorite as well. Simply put, The Witcher is full of excellent, well-written characters and enthralling quests.
Of course, The Witcher 3 isn’t the only game with well-received characters and stories. Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us series’ Ellie and Joel are a couple more protagonists that are loved by players and oftentimes featured in fan art. Still, the fact that The Witcher 3 has such a large cast of characters that are all as interesting and deserving of art as JustAnoR’s Shani is certainly impressive given the game’s large scope.
