The year 2023 is looking great for anime fans with tons of amazing shows coming, some of them brand new, others continuations of really popular series, but now we have the actual first premiere. The second season of Netflix's anime adaptation of The Way Of The Househusband is coming on the first day of the year. This will kick off a month loaded with new shows with huge names like NieR Automata Ver. 1.1a leading the way.The first season of The Way Of The Househusband, the manga created by Kousuke Oono, was divided into two 5 episode segments. The first one started airing in April 2021, and the second part of season 1 came out in October of that same year. The animated adaptation by Netflix received criticism over its animation style but was praised for other elements.The announcement of the second season was made on Sunday by Netflix, as a perfect plan to start the year with a fun and cozy comedy. With a few screenshots revealed, this continuation of the show will be looking to redeem itself from the critics and offer a product up to the fans' expectations. All the staff from the first season is returning to make season 2, including the studio J. C. Staff and Chiaki Kon as director. While celebrating the new year, 5 episodes of The Way Of The Househusband will be available to watch worldwide on Netflix.
The show follows the story of Tatsu, a legendary member of the Yakuza known as the "Immortal Dragon" that suddenly decides to retire from crime to become a househusband to help his wife Miku with her professional career. However, retiring just like that won't be easy for him as a lot of individuals try to drag him back to the Yakuza scene or accidentally get in his way. The manga became one the most popular comedies in no time, and actually got a live-action adaptation before the anime.
The live-action series began in Japan in 2020 with Nippon TV in charge of the production and premiere, and it already has two full seasons, a spin-off series and a movie that premiered this past summer. Kousuke Oono's manga kicked off in 2018, when it got published in Shinchosha's online magazine Kurage Bunch, originally thought as a short story, but by fans petition it turned into an ongoing series. So far, 10 volumes of Tatsu's life have been entertaining Japanese fans with millions of copies sold. The English version of the manga is being published by Viz Media with 8 available volumes thus far. The 9th is scheduled to release on February 21, 2023.
Although the fans of The Way Of The Househusband are mainly in Japan, the fact that it has this many adaptations this soon speaks volumes about its quality. Soon enough the anime's second season will add to the adaptations list and let the spectator see if J.C. Staff improves the animation department or bets to keep a more minimalist style like in the first one.
