As a life simulation game, The Sims gives players the ability to create virtual families and be in charge over the course of their lives. But what it also does effectively is introduce pre-made families that further expand the game's lore. Starting from the Goths, who made an appearance in the very first The Sims, the franchise now has a bunch of iconic families that would bring both drama and mystery to the experience. One of them is the Calientes.

First introduced in The Sims 2, the Caliente family comprised sisters Nina and Dina. They lived in Pleasantview, where they led interesting lives as they shared a lover (Don Lothario), and Dina was also dating Mortimer Goth after his wife, Bella Goth, was abducted by aliens. The Caliente sisters' most recent appearance in The Sims 4 was just as dramatic. Despite being alternate versions of Nina and Dina, they were still involved with Don, who's also dating their mother Katrina Caliente. It's clear that the Calientes seemed to live a life of romance and scandal in any in-game universe, which some players could deem too generic as the franchise progresses. The Sims 5 has an opportunity to change that up.

A Less Generic Spin to the Caliente Sisters For The Sims 5

Sims 4 Romances Don Lothario and Katrina Caliente

On the surface, players would perceive the Caliente sisters as women with multiple romantic escapades in The Sims 2, The Sims 3, and The Sims 4. One could even say that they were the female versions of ladies' man Don Lothario. While there's nothing wrong with playing around the romance aspect of the franchise, the Caliente sisters could benefit from a story that veered away from their multiple relationships.

The Caliente sisters have one of the more interesting backstories in the franchise. In their The Sims 2 family bio, it was emphasized that they moved to Pleasantview on the eve of Bella Goth's alien abduction. Aside from the fact that the Calientes were connected to Don, who was a suspect in Bella's disappearance, the sisters also had an alien ancestor. This added a new layer to the mystery, but their possible involvement wasn't explored further beyond the second game. Even more so in The Sims 4, which featured a different version of the Caliente family.

The Sims 5 could continue the timeline of The Sims 2, so it could delve deeper into the Caliente sisters' mysterious lives. The game could first remove or milden the women's flirtatious traits. Instead, it could hammer down on their ambitious traits to add more depth to their alleged motive to help get rid of Bella. This would add more weight to Dina's intentions toward an elderly Mortimer. Nina could also benefit from their partnership because she could get a portion of the Goth family's fortune once Mortimer passes away.

Another slant that The Sims 5 could explore is the Calientes' ties with aliens. Their great-grandfather was Pollination Technician 7, which would make them part alien. Not only would this add precedent to Bella's alien abduction, but it could also open up opportunities for the Caliente sisters to have more alien friends. However, this would also mean that they'd have to move to The Sims 5's version of Strangetown, a world inhabited by aliens.

There are many pre-made Sim families that might show up in The Sims 5, which might include the Calientes. The challenge for the upcoming game now would be to breathe new life into these characters, like how The Sims 5 improved on its customization tools. The Sims universe is colorful and outrageous, and it definitely deserves more than just generic plot points to expand its lore.

The Sims 5 is in development.
