Highlights

  • The Lovestruck expansion for The Sims 4 will enhance romance options with new interactions and neighborhoods for Sims.
  • A new feature will prevent other sims from interrupting dates, like they could before, allowing for a smoother gameplay experience.
  • Some fans are frustrated that the dating upgrade is part of a paid expansion rather than a free update.

The next expansion pack for The Sims 4 should remove an annoying feature that has been plaguing players while they're sending their Sims out on dates. Although the next pack for The Sims 4 isn't expected to launch until July 25, early reports state that it will prevent other Sims from butting into conversations without being invited while the player's sims are on a date.

A leak revealed the next Sims 4 expansion, Lovestruck, about a week ago, revealing that the game is getting some new options for letting Sims romance one another. The 16th paid expansion for The Sims 4 reportedly brings with it three new neighborhoods filled with romantic activities, along with new interactions like seductive dancing for sims to perform, and turn-ons and turn-offs to determine which sims will attract one another.

An important part of The Sims 4, along with playing with the families and keeping them happy (or miserable), is giving the Sims a home.

While the leak has invigorated The Sims' fan base as they wait for Project Rene, the uninterrupted dates feature is one that seems to be drawing a great deal of attention. According to a screenshot shared on Reddit by user lunniidolli, players will be able to send more than two people on a date at a single time as well as change the location of the date on a whim, but other sims randomly appearing on public lots will not interact with the chosen Sims while the date timer is counting down unless the player invites them into a conversation.

Players Wish the Sims 4 Date Upgrade Was a Free Feature

While players seem overall relieved that dating should function a lot more smoothly in the future, a big part of the fan base is irritated that the upgrade is coming via a paid expansion and not just being added to the game as a free update. Much of the content leaked for Lovestruck involves adding new items and interactions to the game, which is pretty standard for a Sims expansion, but a lot of fans seem to see the uninterrupted dates as a fix to a feature that's been flawed since it was introduced several years ago. It's also notable that The Sims 4's new rewards feature hands out bonuses from hairstyles to new furniture options as login rewards, meaning players are getting the types of objects they'd normally pick up in an expansion for free while a quality-of-life upgrade is locked behind a paywall.

The pack is expected to sell for around $40, which is standard for a Sims 4 expansion, and a lot of players seem to indicate that they'll be missing out on the upgraded dating because they don't plan to shell out the money for it. With the recent cancelation of potential Sims 4 rival Life by You, EA is unlikely to drop that price point, so fans may just have to wait and see how it's implemented to decide if it's worth the price.
