The Sims 4 is the perfect playground for players to live out their wildest dreams. From careers, fame, and occults to families and life experiences, almost anything is possible for Simmers. For example, lot traits are an interesting gameplay feature that brings life to the Sims' world.
Lot traits have direct and passive effects on the various lots players can place around their worlds in The Sims 4. There are over 40 lot traits in the game across the available DLC, so let's review what lot traits are and how they affect Sims.
What Are Lot Traits
Similar to Sims' traits, lot traits have their own stories and affect how Sims interact with the world around them. Lot traits are found in Build/Buy mode on the home panel at the top left side of the screen. There is a max of three traits that can be placed on a lot simultaneously, but traits can be removed or added at any time.
Most traits positively affect the lot, but experiences may vary depending on the Sim. Lot traits typically affect skills, moodlets, and social interactions, but they can also impact academic or professional success. The Sims 4 also features locked lot traits and can't be added to other lots or removed from their current lot. These are referred to as locked traits and are only included in two packs - City Living and Island Living.
There are 49 lot traits in The Sims 4 from the base game and the following DLC:
- The Sims 4 base game (10)
- Cats & Dogs (6)
- City Living (12)
- Locked Traits (7)
- Discover University (2)
- Eco Lifestyle (3)
- Get Famous (3)
- Island Living (1)

- Jungle Adventures (1)
