As showcased in the livestream before the update's release, the Infants update allows Sims to have Science Babies. The name may sound odd, but this is a great inclusive addition to the game that allows for more gameplay diversity. This guide will explain everything there is to know about Science Babies in The Sims 4.

Sims 4 Science Babies

asking a sim to have science baby

There are now new options for having offspring in The Sims 4; Sims that don't want to adopt or become pregnant can now resort to having Science Babies. These miracles of science are versatile and instantaneous.

In order to have a Science Baby, the player needs to open up the phone menu of the Sim that they would like to become a parent. In the Home section, two options may appear: "have a Science Baby as a single parent" or "have a Science baby with..."

options to choose who to have baby with

If the player opts for their Sim to have a baby as a single parent, the hospital will collect the genetic information from that Sim to create a baby. Then, as long as there is a high enough friendship bar, the Sim can also choose to have a Science Baby with a friend or a romantic partner.

Sims may be in a relationship and have a high romantic bar, but if they haven't developed their friendship enough, the main Sim won't be able to ask the other Sim to have a Science Baby with them.

Alternatively, players can choose the Deep Thoughts friendly interaction with a close friend and select the "ask to have a Science Baby" option.

Science Baby Cost and Bringing it Home

Once the player confirms that they are sure about their decision, their Sim will immediately head to the hospital to have the child. They will return with a newborn or more -- the chances of having twins or triples are the same as they would for any other Sims pregnancy. The procedure costs a total of 1,200 Simoleons.

Once the baby is brought home, the Sim will be able to take family leave just like they would regularly and can begin raising their newborn until they turn into an infant - this is a great and quick way to start exploring this new life stage of The Sims 4.

The Sims 4 is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
