Pets are an optional but a significant part of The Sims 4 gameplay. With the Cats & Dogs expansion pack, players can introduce furry companions into their Sims’ lives. These pets can be either cats or dogs and can be beloved members of a Sims family. These virtual pets have been a cherished part of the Sims franchise ever since its inception, and it’s no wonder that The Sims 4 retains this mechanic, too. Not only do they provide companionship to Sims, but they also add variety to the game with their own personalities and traits.

Pets in The Sims 4 start as puppies and kittens, gradually acquiring new abilities as they grow older. This is why players often want to age up their pets to make the game more engaging and interesting. Read this guide to learn how to age up pets in The Sims 4.

How to Age Up Pets in The Sims 4

Luckily, there are multiple ways to age up pets in The Sims 4. For starters, players can use the Age Up treat, which is available at vet clinics for 150 Simoleons. To purchase this treat, players will need to visit a vet clinic with their pet and interact with the vending machine. Alternatively, players can also craft this treat themselves, but that can be a bit of a process. Once players have acquired it, they can use it to advance their pet to the next life stage.

Aging Up Pets With Cheats

Cheats are a convenient way to speed up pets’ aging process in The Sims 4. Here’s how players can apply them:

As with all cheats, players will have to open the cheat console first by pressing ‘Ctrl+Shift+C’. Then, type ‘testingcheats true’ to activate cheats. If it worked, players will see ‘cheats are enabled’ below the console. After activating cheats, type ‘cas.fulleditmode’, choose the pet, and select ‘modify in CAS.’ Once in the CAS mode, players will be able to age up their pets.

Just like that, players also have the option to reverse the age of their pets. This can be achieved by either applying cheats or using the Age Down treat. Like the Age Up treat, players can purchase the Age Down treat at a vet clinic. Similarly, players can also halt the aging process of their pet Sims by going to the ‘Gameplay’ tab in-game options and disabling ‘Auto Age.’

The Sims 4 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
