Training Horses is a big part of the Horse Ranch Game Pack in The Sims 4. Players will get to help their pet level up four different Skills using a variety of methods. Some Skills are easier to manage than others while some require practicing using items like Barrels.
Caring for a Horse is manageable in The Sims 4 and Simmers can try to train the animal to earn extra Simoleons by selling a well-trained Horse or winning competitions.
How To Train Horses In The Sims 4
To thoroughly train a Horse in The Sims 4, players must pay attention to four different Skills; Temperament, Agility, Jumping, and Endurance. Each has its own training method as well as its special equipment.
On a side note, if Simmers are too lazy or don’t want to spend time building Skills, approach the Community Board and send the Horse for training by paying Simoleons.
How To Level Up Temperament
- Effect: Temperament Skill allows Horses to communicate better with other Sims and pets, and the rider is less likely to be bucked off while riding.
The Temperament Skill is arguably the easiest to level up in The Sims 4 since it requires little to no effort. Basically, any kind of socialization will build the Temperament Skills. Even caring for the Horse like Brushing the Mane or Cleaning the Hooves will work towards leveling up the Skill.
A high Temperament Skill helps with the following competitions; Show Jumping, Western Pleasure, and Ultimate Horse Championship.
How To Level Up Agility
- Effect: Agility affects how fast and easy the Horse moves around.
High Agility enables the Horse to compete in Barrel Racing, Western Pleasure, and Ultimate Horse Championship.
Other than sending the Horse to train under specialists for Simoleons, Simmers can use Horse Barrel and train the Horse with one of these options:
Method | Result |
---|---|
Practice Barrels | The standard method helps build the Skill slowly |
Race Barrels (Available at Agility level 5) | The more expert way of training as it slightly increases Skill gain |
Intensely Train | This intense method boosts Skill gain in The Sims 4, but the Horse becomes tired more easily |
How To Level Up Jumping
- Effect: Jumping obviously affects how well and high a Horse can jump.
High Jumping Skill allows the Horse to participate in the Show Jumping, Endurance Racing, and Ultimate Horse Championship competitions.
While training on HorseJump, the Horse will go back and forth until a bar falls on the ground. Players need to dismount, fix the bar, and then mount again to continue training. There are several options to pick from while training the pet on the Horse Jump:
Method | Result |
---|---|
Practice Basic Jumps | The standard method helps build the Skill slowly |
Practice Advanced Jumps (Available at Jumping level 5) | The more expert way of training as it slightly increases Skill gain and the bar is more likely to fall |
Intensely Train | This intense method boosts Skill gain, but the Horse becomes tired more easily |
How To Level Up Endurance
- Effect: Endurance basically shows how resilient a Horse is; the higher the Skill, the less fatigued it becomes.
Upon achieving a sufficient level of Endurance, the Horse is eligible for Endurance Race, Show Jumping, and Ultimate Horse Championship competitions.
The Endurance Skill is boosted by going on rides while mounting the Horse. Simmers will also benefit since it increases the Horse Riding Skill. There are three types of rides and one unlocks at a certain level:
Method | Result |
---|---|
Relaxed Ride | The standard method helps build the Skill slowly |
Energetic Ride | The more expert way of training as it slightly increases Skill gain |
Intense Ride (Available at Horse Riding level 2) | This intense method boosts Skill gain, but the Horse becomes tired more easily |
The Sims 4 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S.
