In The Sims 4, Sims have different life stages, and the amount of time that players need to wait from one stage to the next can differ greatly. While Sims only remain babies for a couple of days, it can take several in-game weeks for them to age up from a Young Adult to an Adult. This is slightly different for animals since they only have three life stages: youngling, adult, and elder.
The Horse Ranch expansion added horses to The Sims 4, which made several players wonder just how long it takes for a foal to become an adult horse and if it's possible to speed up the process. This guide will tell players everything they need to know about aging up horses in The Sims 4.
How Long Does It Take For a Foal to Age Up
Players that are trying out the Horse Ranch expansion for the first time will quickly notice that foals take quite a bit to age up in The Sims 4. Once gamers acquire their foal in The Sims 4, it will take them a total of eight in-game days for it to age up on Normal life speed.
This is a considerable amount of time, and it can feel like a lot longer considering that foals can't learn many of the horse skills available with the Horse Ranch pack. Foals can only increase their Temperament Skill, but adult horses can train their Endurance Skill as well as their Jumping and Agility Skills.
How to Age Up a Horse
Unfortunately, there is no way to age up a horse in The Sims 4 without resorting to cheats. The Age Up treat from the Cats & Dogs expansion pack is not compatible with horses, and unlike Sims, players can't simply have their Sims bake them a cake and age them up by blowing out the candles. Players that want to age up their horses will have to enable cheats on their Sims 4 save file.
To open the command text box on console, players have to press down all trigger buttons. On PC, they have to press Ctrl + Shift+ C. And on Mac, they have to press Command + Shift + C. Then, to enable cheats, they must write down "testingcheats on" and confirm.
Since under normal circumstances, it'd be impossible to change the age of a pre-existing Sim while in the Create-a-Sim menu, gamers will have to enable all of its functions; they can do this by typing "cas.fulleditmode" in the command text box. This unlocks the ability to change a Sim's life stage, meaning players will be able to turn their foals into adult or elderly horses and vice-versa.
