Whether gamers want to get a horse with the best possible traits or they want to welcome a brand-new member to their household, it's important to know how to acquire a foal in The Sims 4 Horse Ranch, and this guide will explain how to do just that. Here, players will learn all four methods for acquiring a foal in The Sims 4.

Create-a-Sim

Just like cats and dogs, horses are household members in The Sims 4, and this means that they can be created in Create-a-Sim as long as the player owns Horse Ranch.

When gamers are creating a horse in CAS, they can decide its life stage, so they can start their household with a foal from the get-go.

If the player isn't starting a save from scratch, they won't be able to simply add another Sim to their household without resorting to cheats. To do it, they must enable cheats in The Sims 4 and then activate the CAS.fulleditmode cheat. This makes it possible for gamers to add new members at any given time.

Purchasing a Foal

Players can buy foals with The Sims 4 Horse Ranch expansion pack. To purchase a foal, gamers must call Ranch Animal Exchange; this can be done at a Ranch Bulletin Board, on the Household app on a Sim's phone, or by interacting with a Hay Now! Horse Bed.

To buy a foal, a Sim must have saved up a total of 1,000 Simoleons in order to be able to pay the agency fee. Purchased horses usually have pretty good traits compared to rescued horses.

Rescuing a Foal

Instead of buying a foal, players can actually rescue one in need. Gamers can rescue foals by calling Ranch Animal Exchange on a phone, by reading a Ranch Bulletin Board, or by interacting with any Hay Now! Horse Bed.

Since these horses have been rescued, they tend to be more fragile and have more complicated traits as a consequence, but that doesn't mean they won't be great horses to have on a ranch. To rescue a foal, gamers only need to pay a rescue fee of 250 Simoleons.

Horse Breeding

Just like cats and dogs, horses can breed in The Sims 4. If they're successful, they will eventually become pregnant and give birth to a foal within a couple of days.

Players must own a mare (an adult female horse) if they'd like to add a foal to their household. The mare can mate with a stallion (an adult male horse) as long as it's nearby and they've met each other before - the horse doesn't actually have to be in the same household for it to work.

If these conditions are met, the Sim must interact with one of the horses and select the "Encourage to Mate with..." option in the Friendly social menu. It might not work the first time, but once it does, the option will no longer be available, confirming that the mare is expecting.

The Sims 4 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
