The Sims 4: High School Years encourages players to experiment with how they want their teens' lives to play out. Just like in reality, The Sims 4 has positive and negative experiences. These experiences are expanded upon with every Expansion pack, and teenagers are the focus in High School Years. Specifically, their days in school are featured, including extracurricular activities, prom, exams, and more. One interesting feature is the ability to drop out of high school.

Not every Teen wants to walk the expected path of life. Some might want to get a jumpstart on building a career, while others want to be entrepreneurs and don't have the time to fit it all in and be full-time high school students. Whatever the story, this guide covers everything players need to know about dropping out of high school in The Sims 4: High School Years.

How to Drop Out

The Sims 4

Before, teens were restricted to high school until they aged into Young Adults. High School Years gives them more options for how they want to advance in life, which includes dropping out of high school. Of course, this is not a decision that comes with no consequences, and specific career fields won't be available to those without a high school diploma. However, they still have plenty of job options, or Sims can start their business ventures with the new Entrepreneur Skill if they wish to work.

Players can have their Sims drop out in a couple of ways. The easiest is to use a computer under the high school options and select "Drop Out of High School." A pop-up will confirm this decision, and then the Sim will no longer be enrolled in high school, effective immediately.

Alternatively, Teen Sims can speak to the principal during school hours and have the option to drop out through social interaction. After dropping out, they can't attend classes, but they can still be invited to the prom and vice versa. If players have Discover University, they will have slim to no chances of being accepted into either of the universities unless they have very high skills or get their diploma online.

How to Get an Online Diploma

The Sims 4

Teen Sims cannot return to school, so the only way to get a high school diploma is to take an online course as a Young Adult. To get an online diploma, click on any computer and find the Career category. Players will see the option to "Work Toward a High School Diploma." However, unlike getting a diploma through high school, this option costs 250 Simoleons.

Getting an online diploma in The Sims 4 doesn't require any other special conditions, and it takes Sims a few in-game hours to complete. Once they are finished, a pop-up congratulates them on getting their diploma, and an official copy will arrive in the mail a couple of days later. From that point, all careers are available, and their chances of getting into university are significantly higher.

The Sims 4 is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
