The Sims team puts the spotlight on teen culture with The Sims 4: High School Years expansion pack. The DLC adds exclusive content in Create A Sim (CAS) mode that livens up gameplay and gives players even more options to customize their Sims' style. High School Years CAS items are heavily influenced by Pop Culture, trends, and the American high school experience.
Before the expansion pack dropped, a free update to the game beefed up the base game quite a bit. It added major features such as curved walls, sexual orientation and romance preferences, as well as body hair. Most of these features go hand in hand with much of The Sims 4: High School Years' gameplay and can be edited in CAS. All in all, the pack is jam-packed with content that brings teens to life in a way the franchise hasn't had yet, and players can stylize Sims to their hearts' content.
Appearance and Clothes
Hair and Face
The hairstyles and makeup are very modern, and the bright colors and bold styles lend well to individualism. Sims also experiments with adding styled baby hairs to more looks.
Tops
Trends and thrift culture are behind the clothes concepts. There are quite a few tops available to players, and they mix and match well with the bottoms to create unique looks.
Bottoms
While there aren't as many bottoms as there are tops, players still have plenty to choose from when it comes to completing their outfits. The bottoms are a perfect mixture of vintage and modern that is true to the Gen-Z nature of the pack.
Full Body
The full body options give everything from glam to prep. This is also where players can find things like sports uniforms and graduation gowns, as well as some formal options for Prom Night.
Accessories
Accessorizing can make or break a Sim's outfit. Thankfully, The Sims 4: High School Years CAS has fun and iconic pieces for players to work with.
Personality Traits and Aspirations
High School Years also gives players new aspirations and traits to play with. The Aspirations have sims striving to succeed in high school, whether that be socially, financially, or academically. The traits have significant effects on gameplay, and players can expect new and surprising challenges for their teens to face.
Aspirations
There are 4 aspiration options that come with the DLC.
Live Fast: Sims with this aspiration strive to break rules and break them often. They truly embrace living young, wild, and free, so players should prepare for lots of mischief and, naturally, lots of fun.
Drama Llama: Sims with Drama Llama as their aspiration live off gossip and dramatic outbursts and never hold back on their emotions. They also tend to stir the pot when the opportunity presents itself.
Goal Oriented: Sims that choose Goal Oriented don't play when it comes to their future. They are ambitious and laser-focused on their success, so the typical high school distractions are easier ignored.
Admired Icon: The Admired Icon Aspiration is all about popularity, being a fashionista, charismatic, and gaining fans. Sims with this want to be revered by their peers.
Traits
There are 3 traits that affect how sims interact with the world and other sims around them.
Socially Awkward: Socially Awkward Sims are the definition of social struggle. Players will need to be wary as these Sims almost never succeed at social interactions, so making friends takes work.
Party Animal: Party Animals love to throw down and go hard. They're usually the life of the party and will bust out a party trick to liven the mood.
Overachiever: Overachievers, while they take care of business at school, then can come across as know-it-alls to other Sims. However, they thrive off competition and can make good role models.
The Sims 4: High School Years is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox One.
