The Sims 4 as a life simulation is a blank slate for players to fill with Sims, venues, life stories, and more. Players have complete control over their worlds and can expand them with the various DLC packs that add gameplay and worlds. The Sims 4: For Rent allows Simmers to be property owners or tenants with Residential Rentals introduced to the game.
Expansion packs add significantly to the base game, including worlds, objects, functions, and events. The Sims 4: For Rent includes a new Neighborhood Potluck event. If players host a successful potluck, they will earn rewards and benefits for their rental.

Secrets is a new mechanic introduced with For Rent, aiming to bring more fun into social dynamics between different household units.
How to Host a Neighborhood Potluck Event
Players can live in, own, and build Residential Rentals in For Rent. While there aren't many limitations, players can create large communities in apartments and other communal spaces. A focus on community with the pack is reflected in its Neighborhood Potluck event.
Events are goaled social functions that bring Sims together for a specific purpose. Players will earn trophies if they complete all the event goals within the designated time frame. Neighborhood Potlucks are a great way to get to know the other Sims living in a Residential Rental as a tenant or a landlord.
Follow the below instructions to host a Neighborhood Potluck in The Sims 4:
- Click a Teen or older Sim's phone to pull up the app menu.
- Find the Social icon, scroll down, and choose "Plan a Social Event."
- Select Neighborhood Potluck from the list of social events.
- Pick at least three Sims to contribute food to the potluck.
- Invite other Sims as guests. Guests can include tenants and Sims who don't live on the property.
- Choose the event location. Otherwise, it will automatically be the current household.
- Click the checkmark to confirm and start the event immediately.
Players can schedule the event for a future time or date using the Calendar.
Once the Neighborhood Potluck starts, players will have goals to complete for the event to succeed. The main objective is to have four guests eat potluck food.
Sims will also be encouraged to call guests to a meal, thank guests for coming, compliment contributors' potluck items, and clean up.
Neighborhood Potluck Event Rewards
Players will have several hours to host the Neighborhood Potluck and finish all the tasks. Whenever the event ends, they will be given their trophy and reward. While most goaled events result in Simoleons and objects, Neighborhood Potlucks can affect a Residential Rental's overall star rating.
Bronze and Silver trophies will slightly increase a unit's rating. Players who earn a gold medal will get a rating increase and a unique Grill object. The object will be stored in the Household Inventory and accessed from Build/Buy mode.
