Sims can seek higher education and learn new technology with The Sims 4: Discover University, including the Robotics Skill. The Robotics skill allows Sims to make all kinds of helpful robots, upgrade parts, and even cybernetics for Sims to wear themselves. However, working on the Robotics Skill can be dangerous for Sims if they are careless.

Sims can practice Robotics regardless if they enroll in University or not, but there is a society at the Foxbury Institute called the Bot Savants that gives players additional benefits with the Robotics Skill. So, if players want to embrace futuristic technology and design highly complex computer systems in The Sims 4, the Robotics Skill is made for them, and this guide has everything they need to know about mastering it.

How to Build the Robotics Skill

The Sims 4

Sims can learn Robotics in one of two ways: skill books or using a Robotics Workstation. Skill books can be purchased from any bookshelf, but getting Sims to sit and focus on finishing books can be difficult. The Robotics Workstation, while more expensive, is a significantly faster and easier way to earn the Robotics Skill.

Sims can select the Robotics Workstation and choose Tinker to practice making robots which also results in Robot Salvage Parts. However, just like repairing an electronic, Sims risk getting shocked while using the Robotics Workstation. This happens far more often than when repairing, so players should be wary not to overdo it if a Sims is constantly dazed from electrocution. Sims can die from electric shock if they try to work while dazed, making the Robotics Skill one of the most dangerous skills in The Sims 4.

How to Build Robots

The Sims 4

The main activity for Robotics is building helpful robots and cybernetics. If they want to make lots of bots, players will want to ensure they are stocked up on the different parts, such as Upgrades, Mechanisms, Computer Chips, and Robot Salvage. Robotics can be an expensive skill to play around with, but all the creations can be sold at much higher prices than their parts end up costing.

Ulti-Bots & Robo-Arms

Ulti-Bots are small, helpful robots that serve one purpose. Sims can build them using the Robotics Workstation once they reach level three of Robotics and will unlock more as they get better. There are a total of four Ulti-Bots that Sims can make, including the following:

  • Cleaner Bot
  • Party Bot
  • Gardener Bot
  • Fixer-Bot

These bots are dedicated to specific tasks that fall under their purpose and must be activated by Sims. They will only work for a set amount of time before they need to be reactivated. For example, an active Cleaner Bot will float around the house looking for dirty objects or puddles to clean automatically until their battery dies, similar to how streaming drones work.

The Sims 4

The Robo-Arm can be crafted at Robotics Skill level seven and worn by Sims. While cool looking, players mainly use it when crafting or tinkering at the Robotics Workstation. It increases craft speed, boosts skill progression rate, and lessens the chance of Sims getting electrocuted at the workstation.

Servos

The Sims 4

Servos are another type of bot that can be crafted after level eight of the Robotics Skill. Unlike Ulti-Bots, they have a far more advanced AI system and are humanoid. Players can actually play as them after they are activated, and like Sims, they have traits and an Aspiration. Servos can be modded with Behavioral Modules that encourage them to do certain actions such as garden, repair, clean, care for children, and protect Sims from intruders.

Additionally, Servos have four needs that players must up-keep, including the following:

  • Fun
  • Social
  • Durability
  • Charge

Durability and Charge are the most important to ensure that Servos are in their best shape and can complete their tasks.

Engineer Robotic Craftables

The Sims 4

Robotics Workstation. There are two branches of the Engineer Career field: Mechanical and Computer. Mechanical focuses on the Handiness Skill and Computer Programming Skill, but both heavily feature Robotics if players have Discover University downloaded.

Sims in either branch have access to devices called Experimental Motivators. These are small devices that, when deployed, may trigger Sims into certain actions. For example, the Study Motivator might encourage Sims to do their homework or feel the need to achieve something. See below for a list of the remaining motivators:

  • Party - unlocked at level 3 of the Engineer Career
  • Tidy - unlocked at level 4 of the Engineer Career
  • Energy - unlocked at level 5 of the Engineer Career

Once players reach level 7, they get the option to follow the Mechanical or Computer branch.

The Sims 4

Mechanical

Sims in the Mechanical branch have access to two craftables at the Robotics Work Station. The first is ExoMech Suits at career level 8. Sims who wear this will get boosts to the Fitness and Handiness Skill and the ability to hover.

Second is ExoMech Helmets at career level 9. They work best when paired with the ExoMech Suit and increase the Logic and Robotics Skills gain rate when worn. Both pieces of technology will put Sims in a Focused mood.

Computer

Sims in the Computer Branch get access to the Computer Glasses once they hit level 9 of the career. The Computer glasses simulate a computer screen that Sims can access whenever and wherever. They will have the same actions as if they were using a computer or laptop when they click on the glasses.
