The ability to deliberately cheat death is an intriguing phenomenon, and the fantasy has seen several famous portrayals through characters like Brook in One Piece. An unplanned demise is one of the most inconvenient experiences in The Sims, as players' plans for a playthrough can be shredded in the blink of an eye by the cold scythe of the Grim Reaper. Although the dead largely remain dead or transform into ghosts in The Sims 4, there are a few ways to stay the hands of the mortality clock to give a Sim another chance at life. One of these methods is the Death Flower, which can come in handy when bargaining for a newly demised Sim's life with the angel of death.

Every The Sims player has that one favorite avatar or NPC that suddenly bizarrely kicked the bucket, either through electrocution when repairing a fridge or having a heart attack from getting the Enraged moodlet. Before the tears start flowing in loving memory of the Sim's life - both for the player and in-game friends and family - a last-ditch attempt can be made to rescue the avatar from the jaws of the abyss. Some gamers use cheats or the trusty save scum method to undo the event, but The Sims 4 offers several ways to resurrect a Sim, and some gardening proficiency is required to grow the life-saving Death Flower.

The Death Flower Gives Sims a Second Chance at Life

When a Sim dies in The Sims 4, the Grim Reaper visits the death site to convert its body into an urn or tombstone. Before this seemingly irreversible conversion happens, other Sims can plead with the harbinger of death to spare its life, and this method works better when Sims are confident. However, begging the Grim Reaper alone is akin to gambling since the results vary, and the Death Flower is a magical complement to platitudes. When the Grim Reaper comes along, another Sim in the household must already have the Death Flower in their inventory - since the Sim in question can't beg for its own life - and giving the creature the flower while begging for mercy will always revive the dead Sim.

To obtain the Death Flower without cheats in The Sims 4, players must reach level five in the Gardening skill to graft different plants. Grafting a cherry into an apple on a plant box makes a pomegranate, and applying the same procedure with a lily and a Snapdragon yields an Orchid. Players must call upon their grafting expertise once more to form the Death Flower plant using the Pomegranate and the Orchid, which can be harvested and kept in any Sim's inventory.

For Sims lacking skill in the art of the green thumb, the flower can be purchased at the Potion Shop on Caster's Alley in The Sims 4's Realm of Magic DLC. Missing the window of opportunity to liaise with the Grim Reaper isn't a finality either, as players can use the Death Flower to create Ambrosia - a special meal that resurrects ghosts. Preparing this dish without cutting corners doesn't come easy since it requires Sims to attain the maximum skill level in Cooking and Gourmet Cooking.

With a recipe containing Death Flower, Angelfish, and Potion of Youth, raising a lost friend or relative with Ambrosia is far more painstaking compared to the Grim Reaper option. Sims can also cheat death by befriending the Mother Plant in StrangerVille, perfecting the Flower Arranging skill in the Seasons DLC, or even turning into a vampire and becoming immortal. The Death Flower is only a temporary fix for Sims that die of old age (they'll meet the Grim Reaper again in about two days), but even one more day in the land of the living is precious in the Sims universe.

The Sims 4 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
