There are several items to collect in The Sims 4, ranging from fish to trophies to garden produce. Crystals are just one of these collections, and they have several different purposes. Crystals can be broken down into elements, which are collectible items too. They can also be sold for Simoleons or displayed in a Sim's home for everyone to admire.

Finding crystals is time-consuming but straightforward: it's not guaranteed that Sims will dig up a crystal every time, and it takes some work to spot the digging spots. Here's everything players need to know to kick-start their collection!

Where To Find Crystals

Dig spots and rocks can be found in public lots in The Sims 4, for example, in parks. Finding crystals is a random task; with some exceptions, any crystal can appear in any neighborhood, which means a Sim can suddenly come across a rare Rainborz in the same neighborhood in which they found a common Quartz. The dig spots will disappear once they have been searched but will respawn eventually.

Having said that, players are more likely to find rare crystals in areas like the Forgotten Grotto, located in Oasis Springs. Sims will need to visit the Desert Bloom Park and break into the abandoned mine entrance to get there. A Sim will need a handiness level of 10 to achieve this, so it may be a long-term goal.

How To Mine Crystals

A notification will pop on the right-hand side of the screen when a Sim finds a crystal, and players can find it in that Sim's inventory. Players can click and drag to place the crystal in the world or sell it for a few extra Simoleons. Sims will get the Energized emotion for finding a crystal, which is a nice bonus!

If players are into collecting, they should try giving their Sim the Curator aspiration, which will give them bonuses for items they have collected.

What To Do With Crystals

Crystals are useful for a few reasons, depending on which expansion packs the players have.

Base Game

Firstly, players who are into collecting in The Sims 4 will want to add crystals to the list if they're aiming to find every hidden secret in the game. Crystals can also be displayed in a Sim's home.

It's also worth noting that players can sell crystals to the Geological Council to break them down into elements. They can be sold for varying amounts (depending on their rarity) by clicking and dragging them onto the "sell" area. If a Sim has the Appraiser aspiration, they can sell crystals to a museum for a bit more cash.

Get to Work

Get to Work introduces the Scientist career, which allows Sims to analyze crystals, skipping the need to send them to the Geo Council to break crystals down into elements. This means players will be able to complete their element collection more quickly.

Get Famous

In Get Famous, players can use the Celestial Crystal Crown. This can be worn by any Sim of child age or older, and Sims can mount different crystals into the crown, which will have interesting effects on a Sim's mood. It's worth playing around with this to see which combinations work best for a particular Sim. Players may also find crystals for sale at the Flea Market.

Jungle Adventure

Sims in the Jungle Adventure pack can create refined crystals. Regular crystals can be refined using the Archaeology Table, and these pure crystals can be used to create Relics.

Realm of Magic

In Realm of Magic, Sims can create potions using various ingredients, including crystals. For example, the Potion of Good Fortune is made from Turquoise and Valerian Root.

These crystals are both common in Sixam, so shouldn't be too troublesome to find. To get to Sixam, players must either reach level 10 in the Rocket Science Skill to install a Wormhole Generator. Alternatively, they can reach level 10 in the Scientist Career, which will offer the opportunity to make a Wormhole Generator using the Invention Constructor.

Jungle Adventure

Jungle Adventure, meanwhile, contains two rarer crystals:

  • Amazonite - §85
  • Alexandrite - §155

These can be found in Selvadorada, although it may take a lot of digging to find them! Jungle Adventure allows crystals to be turned into relics, so it's worth hunting them down!

The Sims 4 is currently available on PC, macOS, PS4, and Xbox One.
