The Sims 4 is a life simulator giant that just keeps growing. These life simulator games can be great on their own for a while, and in the case of The Sims 4, there's definitely plenty to do. Once the player is used to the game, however, it can get boring doing the same tasks over and over, with no proper purpose. That's where the Legacy Challenge comes in.
There are tons of Sims Challenges thought up by a creative community of players, and the Legacy Challenge is one of the most popular. The player starts with a single Sim known as the 'founder', and plays the same family for ten generations, following a strict set of rules. To help achieve this lofty goal, here are nine mods that boost the experience of the Legacy Challenge. Abiding by EA's terms of service, there are no paid mods included on this list.
8 Family Portrait Mod
Ravasheen's Family Portrait mod is a simple, yet effective mod perfect for The Sims 4 Legacy Challenge players. The mod adds a Family Portrait object to build and buy mode, which can be found by searching 'RSVN' in the build/buy menu. The portrait itself is a clever piece of CC that updates when the family grows - perfect for Legacy Challenges.
As the family grows, so does the portrait. There are tons of styles to choose from to match the style of build that the player uses, so the Family Portrait can fit into any home.
7 Assign NPCs Roles
This mod by Zero overhauls the NPC system to make the world around the Legacy Sim a lot more interesting than it already is. It allows the player to add roles to the townies in The Sims 4 to build a world that feels real, and moves around the players Sims. 'Assign NPCs Roles' also allows the player to take existing townies and turn them into whatever they fancy! How does Mortimer Goth sound as a Butler?
The player can add Mailmen, Butlers, Firefighters, Gardners, Maids, any role that is available in The Sims 4 base game.
6 Slice Of Life
Slice of Life by Kawaii Stacie is an incredible that massively improves the daily lives of Sims. The player can choose to download each module separately or as a whole, so it's easy to customize to individual playing styles.
This mod adds ten improvements to gameplay, making the everyday of the Legacy Challenge a lot more interesting. With the full pack, Sims can remember/talk about special memories, have more personality, throw more interesting parties, get drunk, wear makeup and perfume, have a social life that impacts gameplay, and so much more.
5 MC Command Center
MC Command Center is a mod that's going to be found on most recommendation lists for a reason. It's a highly versatile mod that allows players to customize almost any aspect of The Sims 4, including some cheats that may come in handy for more scripted Legacy Challenges.
For example, if a player has a certain gender in mind for an heir, MCCC has a setting for that. If a player wants to cheat a certain career path for story reasons, MCCC can do that too.
4 Meaningful Stories
Meaningful Stories by Roburky redesigns the mood and emotions system in The Sims 4. It makes the events of the Sims' life more meaningful - meaning they have more of an impact on a Sims' mood and overall outlook. It also adds in-between moods, so Sims won't go from intensely happy to intensely sad unless something drastic happens.
There's also a handy in-game tutorial for using the mod, so players don't need to spend a long time on the download page to figure out exactly how to use it.
3 Relationship Wellness Overhaul
Relationship Wellness Overhaul by Lumpinou is a fantastic mod that does just what it says on the tin. There are modules for just about everything relating to relationships in The Sims 4 for a fully customizable relationship experience.
There are modules to customize adoption, pregnancy, cheating, dating, romances, mood swings, friendships. There's even a new dating app for Sims to find love on! It's more of a collection of mods that are designed to work well together, and can be excellent for story-telling in Legacy Challenges.
2 Carl’s Gameplay Overhaul
Carl's Gameplay Overhaul is more than just a quality of life mod, it also adds a ton of new gameplay options that completely change the way the game works. A great feature of this mod is the finances overhaul, which slows down money gain in the early game, making for a more balanced Legacy Challenge overall.
The mod also adds a difficulty setting to careers that can be set, improves the dating system, adds a basic metabolism to each Sim, and so much more.
1 (Updated) Lifetime Aspirations
Lifetime Aspirations was an incredibly popular mod by creator Ky-e, that unfortunately stopped updating a while ago. Thanks to NeedCoffee4That on Patreon, players can now install an updated version of the mod that is continuously updated to reflect patches in The Sims 4.
Lifetime Aspirations Updated overhauls the Aspiration system in The Sims 4 to have one single goal, designed to be completed over an entire life. It also adds 38 new Aspirations to round out the game! This mod can help Legacy Challenge players flesh out their individual heirs more.
The Sims 4 is available now for Mac, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
