The Sims 4 is a popular life simulation game that allows players to create and control their own Sims, build houses, and explore various activities in a virtual world. One of the many activities available in the game is fishing, which can be a valuable skill for Sims to learn. Fishing in The Sims 4 not only provides a relaxing pastime for Sims but also offers a variety of benefits that can enhance gameplay.
One of the primary reasons fishing is valuable in The Sims4 is that it provides a source of food for Sims. Fish can be cooked and used in various recipes, providing a nutritious meal without needing to spend Simoleons. Additionally, certain fish can be used as fertilizers for gardening, helping to increase the quality and yield of plants. Some players even enjoy showcasing their fish collections in their Sims' homes as a form of decoration. In addition to these practical benefits, fishing in The Sims 4 can also be an enjoyable and rewarding activity for players. Many players take pride in completing their fish collections, which can require catching a variety of fish found in different areas of the game world. Some fish can only be caught with specific bait or lures, making the activity more challenging and requiring careful planning and preparation.

Tips For Fishing
To begin fishing, players can locate wooden signs near bodies of water. As Sims fish, they will gain Fishing Skill, enabling them to catch more valuable or rare fish. However, certain fish can only be caught in specific areas, so players may need to improve other skills as well. For example, increasing the Wellness skill (available in the Spa Day pack) can provide easier access to Sylvan Glade and Forbidden Grotto, where exclusive fish can be found.
In addition, specific traits such as Loves Outdoors and Genius can enhance fish-catching ability by providing positive moodlets during fishing sessions. For players seeking to complete their Fish Collection and utilize fishing frequently, it is recommended that these Sims pursue the Angling Ace Aspiration. This aspiration involves catching various fish and increasing fishing skills, ultimately allowing Sims to remove negative moodlets while fishing once completed.
As Sims advance their Fishing Skill, they unlock useful social interactions such as "Talk About Bait" and "Talk About Local Fishing Spots." These interactions can aid in catching remaining uncaptured fish types, without spoiling the challenge of discovering them independently. Additionally, other Sims may offer advice on fish baits and types, adding helpful information to the player's notebook. It's also worth noting that fishing with other Sims can boost relationships and fulfill social needs.
Fishing With Bait
To catch certain fish, players must use particular baits, which range from plants and frogs to other fish. Using bait generally increases the chances of catching fish and can also expedite skill progression. Therefore, players interested in capturing every fish should focus on gathering fishing materials and catching frogs, which can often be found near fishing spots. Gardening also complements fishing well. It's advisable to carry large amounts of preferred bait to avoid quickly depleting stocks and having to switch to a different type of bait or non-bait fishing. In most cases, the rarity or value of the bait is irrelevant.
All Fish List
In addition to the base game, the various expansion and game packs in The Sims 4 offer unique fish types that are exclusive to specific locations or require certain conditions to be met. This adds an extra layer of challenge and excitement to the fishing experience, as players explore new areas and meet new requirements to complete their Fish Collection. The value of a fish in The Sims 4 depends on several factors, including its size, quality, and rarity. For players interested in using fishing as a source of income, the Sturgeon is an excellent choice, as it has a high value compared to other fish while being relatively easy to find.
The lists presented below are organized based on a combination of alphabetical order, rarity, and the required skill level to catch each fish.

Island Living
The Island Living pack, along with the base game update, has made significant changes to the fishing system, making it more rewarding to level up in fishing than before. Moreover, this expansion introduces numerous new fish types that can be caught in various ways, such as by using fish traps and fishing on canoes in addition to utilizing fishing spots. Mermaids that come with the pack can also use their Aquatic Lure ability to boost their fishing skill and catch rates.
Furthermore, in Sulani, some of the available fish are considered Endangered Species. Players must decide whether to release them or keep them. If they choose to release them, Sims will still keep the collection entry, but if they keep the fish, they may get fined or their relationships with nearby Sims may deteriorate. However, players can sell or mount the fish on a wall without any repercussions.
