One of the most enduring mysteries of The Sims is the disappearance of Bella Goth. This happens in The Sims 2, and the controversy has been discussed on fan forums for nearly two decades. So far, players are still no closer to solving the mystery now than when The Sims 2 was released. One of the issues that make the mystery so hard to unravel is the number of moving parts, one of which is the Caliente sisters.

Nina and Dina Caliente are twin sisters who live together in Pleasantview. On the surface, the sisters are seemingly unrelated to The Sims' Bella Goth disappearance, but a bit of digging reveals some suspicious threads. The Caliente sisters moved to Pleasantview the night before Bella Goth's disappearance and already had a connection to Bella through her deceased brother, Michael, who is Dina's ex-husband. Michael's urn can be found on the coffee table in the Caliente's lounge.

Both Caliente sisters are involved with Don Lothario, who is the last person who saw Bella Goth alive. Don Lothario is central to the Bella Goth mystery for this reason, but also because he's engaged to Bella's daughter, Cassandra Goth. Don's memories show that she rejected his attempt to Make Out, and players have theorized she visited him to welcome him to the neighborhood when he made unwelcome advances on her. When she rejected him, he made plans to get rid of her and possibly enlisted the help of the Caliente sisters to do so.

Why the Caliente sisters would help him get rid of Bella Goth is revealed in their romantic aspirations, and they soon prove to be one of the worst households in The Sims 2. While both sisters are romantically involved with Don Lothario, Dina is also aggressively pursuing Mortimer Goth, Bella Goth's husband. When entering the Caliente household in live mode, the game encourages the player to have Dina pursue Mortimer and attempt to marry him.

The Sims 5 Needs to Address the Alien in The Room

The final piece of the puzzle is that it's extremely likely that Bella's disappearance was caused by The Sims' aliens. There's a crashed alien spaceship in Strangetown and, in the downloadable neighborhood of Lunar Lakes in The Sims 3, there's a grave for Bella Goth, implying she grew old and died on a different planet. While this seems to have nothing to do with the Caliente sisters, their family tree reveals they're part alien: one of their grandparents was a Pollination Technician.

Bella Goth's disappearance appears to have been instigated by Don Lothario after his advances on Bella were rejected. He then approached the Caliente sisters for help in making Bella disappear by using their alien connections. Bella was then abducted by aliens and taken to Lunar Lakes, where she lived out the rest of her life, leaving Dina free to marry Mortimer Goth, while Don's advances towards Bella would remain a secret forever. The Sims 2 leaves this mystery hanging, and neither the Caliente sisters nor Don Lothario get any justice for their probable actions towards the Goth family. The mystery of Bella Goth's disappearance is still unsolved, and players have been left to wonder what really happened that night Bella disappeared.

The Caliente sisters and Don Lothario return in The Sims 4, which takes place in an alternate universe. In this world, Bella Goth's disappearance never happened, and the sisters appear to be more benevolent than their counterparts from The Sims 2. While this scenario gives a more tranquil view of the life Bella Goth could have had, it does little to address the crimes of the Caliente sisters from The Sims 2 and their connection to Bella's disappearance. The Sims 5 needs to reopen this cold case and give fans some answers once and for all.

The Sims 5 is in development.
